priorto6.01.01,orthatareNOTonaLANwithaninternetconnection,andforMDKKeypadswithan
installedBootloaderv1.SCSC5isintendedtobeusedonPCsrunningWindowsXP,VISTA,7,and8.

Installation
SCSC5canbedownloadedbyloggingintotheDocuments&FilessectionoftheRussoundSupport
Center.ItispostedunderCSeriesSystemProgrammingSoftware.

zippedfolder(SCS_C5_6_00_04.zip)toyourcomputer.ThroughWindowsExplorer,locatethat
savedzippedfolder,rightclickonit,andchooseExtractAll.Opentheunzippedfolder,locatethefile
SCSC5_v50105.exe,anddoubleclickittoinstallSCSC5.

Getting Started on Programming

SelectControllerType:
ChooseMCAC3,MCAC5,orXStreamX5atthetopoftheProgramOptionswindow.

AProjectisaconfigurationfilethatisusedtoprogrameachCSeriesorXStreamX5system.WithSCSC5
youcanCreateaNewProject,OpenaSavedProject,orperformaReadFromDevice.

OpenaSavedProjectUsedforcheckingwhatajobssystemcurrentlyconsistsof,oralteringand
updatingaconfigurationfileforanewWrite.ChooseNoController,andtheneitherchooseaRecently
Openedprojectfromthedropdownbox,orclickOpenaSavedProjectandbrowsetoselectandopen
apreviouslySCSC5savedproject(.rp2)fileisstored.

ReadFromDeviceAllowsyoutoconnecttotheselectedControllerandopensthecurrentlyconfigured
programmingfile.ChooseControllerConnected,andtheneitherUSB(CSeriesonly),orEthernetasa
ConnectionMethod,thentheReadFromDevicebutton. SEENOTE1.

CreateaNewProjectBeginanewblankprojectfortheselectedController.UsetheSetupWizardis
selectedbydefaultandmakesforaveryeasystepbystepguidethroughyourconfigurationbyasking
youaseriesofquestionsregardingtheSources,andZonesofthedesiredSystem.RussoundSource
equipmentcomespreconfiguredascertainRNETSourceIDs.Thewizardwillbydefaultassumeyouare
usingthemastheDeviceTypesforsetupconvenience.Ifasourceinputdiffersyoumayselectthe
appropriateDeviceTypefromalist.YouwillalsoneedtoselecttheManufacturerfortheappropriateIR
librarycodeifnecessary.ThebestwaytogetstartediswiththeSetupWizard.
LeaveUsetheSetupWizardcheckedandchooseCreateNewProject.

*TheUsetheSetupWizardmayalsobeuncheckedandtheCreateNewProjectbuttonchosetoopen
ablankconfigurationfilefortheselectedControllerandcanbesetupwithouttheguidanceoftheSetup
Wizard.ThisisalsoaquickwayintothesoftwareifonlyperformingaFirmwareupdate,aSystem
Check,oraFactoryInit.,andacurrentcopyoftheconfigurationfileisnotrequired.

The File Menu

SavethenewlycreatedorupdatedconfigurationfileThiscanbewiseforupdatingorcreatinga
configurationprojectpriortoshowinguponsite,aswellascreatingabackupcopyintheeventitis
neededagain.ChooseFile>Saveinthemenuabove.

OpenUsedtoopenapreviouslycreatedconfigurationprojectwhileSCSC5isalreadyrunning.
NewUsedtostartanewconfigurationprojectwhileSCSC5isalreadyrunning.

The Tools Menu

Thisiswhereyouwillfindadministrativeactions.IfonlyperformingaSystemCheck,aDeviceFirmwareUpdate,
oraFactoryInitAND/ORacopyofthecurrentconfigurationfileisnotrequired,uncheckUsetheSetupWizardin
theProgramOptionswindow,andchooseCreateNewProjectforaquickwayintoSCSC5.

SystemCheckChosethisinordertoperformanRNETsystemcheck.Firmwareversions,ControllerID,
PortsID,andSourceIDinformationisdisplayedforallpoweredonanddetectedRNETdevices.

WriteToDeviceChoosethiswhenyouarereadytoconnectandwritetheconfigurationfiletothe
Controller.ChooseUSB(CSeriesonly)orEthernetasaConnectionMethod,thenOK. SEENOTE1.

FactoryInitFoundintheToolsmenu.ThisisusedtoresettheselectedControllertoitsoriginalfactory
defaultsettings.AllSourceandZonesprogrammingwillberemoved,onlySource1willbeoperational,
andanewdynamicDHCPIPAddressagainwillbeobtained.
AFactoryInitwillnotremoveanyfirmwareupdatesthathavebeeninstalled.

DeviceUpdateUpdatingMCAControllersorMDKKeypadsfirmwarewithSCSC5requiresaphysical
connectiontotheRS232portonthebackoftheMCA**.ChoosetheappropriateProduct,Selectthe
appropriateCOMPort,andbrowseandselecttheuncompressedcopyoftheappropriate*.rff
firmwarefile.ClickUpdate.CurrentfirmwareupdatescanbedownloadeddirectlythroughSCSC5by
clickingontheFirmwareUpdatesmenuinthetreetotheleft.Savethezippedfoldercontainingthe
requestedupdateanddirectionstoyourcomputer.UsingWindowsExplorer,locatethatsavedzipped
folder,rightclickonit,andchooseExtractAllpriortostartingtheupdateprocess.

ItisrecommendedforusersofWindows7or8touseaUSBSerialadapterthatusesaProlificchipset.
TheseareoftenrecognizedasProlificUSBSerialadapter(COM#)inyourcomputersDeviceManager.

SetupWizard ThiswillrelaunchtheSetupWizard

NOTE1.IfchoosingUSB(CSeriesonly),connectaBstyleUSBcabletothefrontoftheMCAcontrollertoaUSBporton
yourpc.MakesureyouhavetheRussoundUSBDriverinstalled,andidentifiedproperlyinDeviceManagerunder(PortsCOM&
LPT).TheRussoundUSBdriverwasdownloadedintheSCS_C5_6_00_04/USBDiverfolder.Itcanbeinstalledbylocatingand
rightclickingtheUnknownDeviceinyourcomputersDeviceManagerandchoosingUpdateDriver.Thenbrowsingtoand
choosingtheUSBDriverfolder.IfchoosingEthernet,thenentertheSelectedControllersIPaddress.(Thiscanbedetermined
withanMDKkeypadorbyothermeanssuchasvariousnetworkscanningappsavailableforyourmobiledevice).
