AUGUST 1995 FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY Sill FlightSafety ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL CHAPTER 3 LIGHTING INTRODUCTION This chapter covers normal and emergency aircraft lighting for the cockpit and cabin, as well as exterior and ground service lighting. GENERAL Airplane lighting consists of cockpit, exterior, cabin, and cargo/service compartment lighting, Cockpit lighting includes engine and navigation instruments lights, dome lights, storm lights, read- ing lights, chartholder lights, console lights, utility spovfloodlights, and electrical service outlets. AUGUST 1995 Exterior lights include navigation, taxi/ takeoff, landing, wing, anticollision, strobe, and logo lights. Standard cabin/gallery/lavatory lighting is provided, plus a two-minute entrance lighting ‘capability to permit crew entrance lighting with no power on the aircraft. ¥ 34 + FlightSafety > ZI, eH“ ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL CoS INTERIOR LIGHTING NORMAL COCKPIT LIGHTING Controls for cockpit and exterior lighting are located on the overhead panel, on the extreme Jeft and right sides of the center instrument panel and on the aft end of the center pedestal. NO SMKG and SEAT BELTS anaunciators are located in the memo panel. Flight Compartment Lights Switch Panel A small L-shaped panel (Figure 3-1) labeled FLT COMPT LT in the lower left comer of the overhead panel contains switches for the dome, standby compass, and storm lights. Dome Lights ‘The cockpit is generally illuminated by two incandescent dome lights mounted in the over- head panel. Both dome lights are controlled by a single DOME switch (Figure 3-1) labeled OFF- DIM-BRT on the FLT COMPT LT switch panel. ‘The dome lights are normally powered and con- tolled by DC Bus I. Standby Compass A single switch labeled STBY COMPASS (Figure 3-1) controls the standby compass lights. Power is provided by the DC Emergency Bus. Storm Lights ‘These lights are installed to provide brilliant illu- mination of the flight instrument panels in the event lightning is encountered, Two fluorescent lights and six incandescent flood lamps are located under the glareshield. These lights are controlled by the STORM switch Figure 3-1). The DC Bus 1 provides power. Minimum Cabin Light Switch ‘The minimum cabin light switch (MIN CAB LT, Figure 3-1) controls five lateral lights and the aft and forward entrance lighting. If the switch is on, the Essential Bus automatically powers the alternate right side lights if the DC Service Bus is not powered. ANN LT Switch Panel The ANN LT switch labeled DIM-BRT-TEST (Figure 3-1) is located on the lower right comer of the overhead panel. It tests and controls the intensity of various annunciators and indicators. Figure 3-1. Integral sensors monitor ambient cockpit lighting to automatically control the brighmess of all avionics digital displays. PNL Control The PNL knob (Figure 3-3) controls Group C lights, powered by AC Wild Bus 1 and con- trolled by DC Bus 2. Flood Control The FLOOD knob (Figure 3-3) controls three incandescent floodlights above each pilot's ‘\ instrament panel and one lamp above the cen- Ter pedestal. FlightSafety (ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL Captain and First Officer Reading Lights These directional incandescent reading spot- lights illuminate the work surfaces below each side window frame. A READING LT rheostat, (Figure 3-4 controls the intensity. DC Bus 1 powers the captain’s reading light and DC Bus 2 the first officer's reading light. Captain and First Officer Console Lights Incandescent flood lights amove the lateral con- soles illuminate the maintenance panels and the flight cases stowed directly below. CONSOLE LT rheostats (Figure 3-4) control the intensity. DC Bus | powers the captain’s lights and DC Bus 2 powers the first officer's lights. Captain and First Officer Chartholders The chartholder (Figure 3-5) on each control wheel has a light with an integral theostat to control intensity. DC Bus 1 powers the captain’s light and DC Bus 2 powers the first officer's, Figure 3-3. Cockpit Dimming Control Panels. The emergency battery provides 28-volt DC power directly to selected lights and annunciators. The main battery pow- ers Inverter No. 1 to power the 115-volt AC Standby Bus for group A lights only. Normal lighting automatically switches to emergency lighting when DC Bus 2 power fails. ‘Through the Emergency Bus, the emergency bat- tery powers the following lights (Figure 3-8) when generators or extemal power is not available: = GLARESHEILD FLOODLIGHTS DOME LIGHT glareshield) — automatically illuminate at a fixed medium intensity + Floodlight (in the overhead panel) — points to the center pedestal and automatically illuminates at a fixed medium intensity + First officer’s dome light — illuminates at low intensity if the DOME switch is in DIM or BRT + Standby compass light A flashlight for each pilot is located below each respective oxygen mask receptacle. STANDBY COMPASS LIGHT Figure 3-8. Emergency Cockpit Lighting AUGUST 1995 ee NORMAL CABIN LIGHTING All cabin lighting controls are located on the flight attendant’s panel (Figure 3-9). This panel is located on the rear cabin bulkhead above the flight attendant’s seat. The switches illuminate white when pressed. Galley Area Lighting A single fluorescent light is installed above the galley area and controlled by the GALLEY pushbutton (Figure 3-9), Power is provided by the DC Service Bus. Lavatory Lighting The single fluorescent light in the lavatory is controlled by the LAV pushbutton (Figure 3-9). Itis powered by the DC Service Bus. The lavatory is also equipped with an incan- descent lamp, automatically powered by the DC Emergency Bus whenever the lavatory door is locked. Lateral Passenger Lighting Parallel rows of fluorescent lights are installed adjacent to the passenger service units through- out the length of the cabin. They are controlled by a LAT PASS pushbutton on the flight atten- dant’s panel (Figure 3-9). Altemate lights on the left side are powered by ‘DC Bus 1 and the DC Service Bus. Altemate lights on AUGUST 1995 FlightSafety ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL the right side are powered by DC Bus 2 and the DC Service Bus. ‘The MIN CAB LT switch (Figure 3-1) controls five lateral lights and the aft and forward entrance lighting. If the switch is on, the Essential Bus ‘automatically powers the alternate right side lights if the DC Service Bus is not powered. Upper Passenger Lighting The aisle ceiling is indirectly illuminated by flu- orescent lighting. These lights are controlled by the UPR PASS pushbutton (Figure 3-9). The lights are powered by Utility Bus I and 2. Control power for all upper lighting is obtained from Utility Bus 2. Passenger Reading Lights Each passenger service unit contains two reading, lights with integral individual pushbutton con- trols. The left and right reading lights are pow- ered by 115-volt AC Wild Bus 1 and 2, respectively. The DC Service Bus controls the power to the lights through the READ LT push- button (igure 3-9), Entrance Lighting The area at the junction of the cabin entrance and the aft center aisle is illuminated by a single fluorescent light and controlled by a pushbutton labeled ENTR (Figure 3-9) on the flight atten- dant’s panel. FlightSafety Passenger Signs ‘The FASTEN SEAT BELTS and NO SMOKING cabin signs are controlled by switches on the SIGNS switch panel (Figure 3-10). Pictograph- type signs illuminate in the passenger service units. A single chime sounds over the PA when either switch is tuned to ON or OF In addition, a RETURN TO YOUR SEAT sign in the lavatory illuminates with the FASTEN SEAT BELTS sign. All signs are powered by DC Bus 2. If the cabin altitude exceeds 10,000 feet, all signs illuminate automatically and a single chime sounds. A blue NO SMKG and/or a blue SEAT BELTS annunciator illuminates on the memo panel any- time a cabin sign is on. Sterile Cockpit Light Some aircraft have a blue light mounted on the forward cabin bulkhead to advise the flight attendant that communications with the flight AUGUST 1995 crew must be kept to an absolute minimum, The light is controlled by the STERILE LIGHT switch on the SIGNS switch panel and is pow- ered by DC Bus 2 (Figure 3-10). EMERGENCY CABIN LIGHTING Emergency lighting consists of the following incandescent lights. + Four ceiling lights — These lights are equally spaced throughout the length of the cabin above the center aisle. + EXIT signs — These lights are located at each end of the passenger cabin and all exits above and below the exit opening Figure 3-11). + Emergency evacuation path floor lights — These lights are installed on the left side of the aisle and have six segments of three lights each. Each segment has one lamp powered by one battery and the remaining ‘two powered by another battery. ‘The emergency lighting system is con- trolled by the EMER EXIT LT switch labeled FORWARD FlightSafety ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL ON-ARM-DISARM located on the SIGNS switch panel (Figure 3-10), Normally, the switch is set to ARM to automati- cally illuminate the emergency lighting when the DC Emergency Bus power drops too low. The emergency lights are then powered by their own batteries for a minimum of 10 minutes. If the DC Emergency Bus voltage increases above 20 volts, the emergency lights automatically extin- guish. Under normal conditions, the batteries are charged by the DC Emergency Bus, Placing the EMER EXIT LT switch to ON while the DC Emergency Bus is powered illuminates the emergency lighting. Otherwise, the emer- gency lighting batteries provide the power. DISARM extinguishes the lights and illuminates the adjacent amber DISARM annunciator. Pushing the guarded EMER LT pushbutton on the flight attendant’s pane] illuminates the emer- gency lights at any time regardless of the EMER EXIT LT switch position. ‘The flight attendant has access to two flashlights. One is located it the forward left baggage bin and the other is under the flight attendant’s seat. Figure 3-11, Exit Lights (Typical) AUGUST 1895, FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY 38 Son > LA S&S “<< en TWO-MINUTE LIGHTING The two-minute lighting system provides mini ‘mum lighting for flight crewmembers during ini- tial boarding or when exiting the airplane. The system illuminates the following (Figures 3-11 and 3-12): + Lamp adjacent to the observer's oxygen panel at the entrance to the cockpit + One lamp in each of the EXIT signs locat- ed at each end of the passenger cabin + Aft cargo compartment light in some aircraft Pushbutton switches, located at the aft cabin door entrance (Figure 3-12) and in the cock- pit adjacent to the observer's oxygen panel, activate a two-minute timer. The system is powered by the Ground Handling Bus as Jong as the cabin entrance door is open. The system may be illuminated for additional two-minute periods by pushing either push- button. FlightSafety a ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL CARGO AND SERVICE COMPARTMENT LIGHTING FORWARD AND AFT CARGO. COMPARTMENT The forward cargo compartment is lighted by a fluorescent tube installed in the ceiling immedi- ately forward of the rear bulkhead. It is con- trolied by the CARGO BY LIGHT switch on the cargo door control panel or by the CARGO switch adjacent to the observer's oxygen panel, The aft cargo compartment is lighted by a single incandescent lamp controlled by the AFT CARGO pushbutton on the flight attendant’s panel (Figure 3-9) Both lighting systems are powered directly from the DC service Bus. While on the ground, the aft compartment light can be powered by the Ground Handling Bus using the two-minute lighting system. . i i a! AFT CABIN DOOR Figure 3-12. Two-Minute Lighting System Switches 3-10 FOR TRAININ: APOSES ONLY AUGUST 1995 Sx Sa Crs REFUEL PANEL Opening the refueling control panel cover actu- ates a microswitch connecting the Ground Handling Bus directly to an incandescent lamp and illuminating the panel. FORWARD AVIONICS COMPARTMENT An interior incandescent light illuminates the forward electrical compartment in the nose sec tion forward of the nose wheel well. With the access door removed, a switch in the upper right area of the compartment may be used to tum on the light. Reinstalling the door will extinguish the light even if the switch has been left on. AFT AVIONICS COMPARTMENT The aft avionics access hatch is located on the underside of the tail cone. Opening the hatch exposes the SVCE LT switch on the frame of the opening controlling an incandescent lamp within the tail cone. The light will automatically extin- ‘guish at liftoff if the switch is inadvertently left on. ‘While on the ground, power is obtained from the DC Service Bus. WHEEL WELL Each landing gear wheel well is illuminated with an incandescent lamp powered from the DC Service Bus while the aircraft is on the ground. ‘The lights automatically extinguish at liftoft if inadvertently left on. The nose gear wheel well light is controlled by the NLG SVCE LT switch located on the AC extemal power access panel. Both of the main gear wheel well lights are con- trolled by a single MAIN L G LT switch located on the refuel panel. AUGUST 1995 FOR TRAINING FlightSafety ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL EXTERIOR LIGHTING NORMAL Exterior Lights Panel All exterior light switches are located in the EXT LT switch panel (Figure 3-13) on the over- head panel. Anticollision Lights One flashing white anticollision light is installed on top of the vertical stabilizer and one is installed on the bottom of the center fuselage. A single switch labeled BEACON (Figure 3-13) controls both lights. Normal power and control is from the DC Service Bus with automatic backup from DC Bus 1. Navigation Lights ‘Navigation lights are installed on each wing tip and the tail cone. Normal electrical power and control is from the DC service Bus via the NAV switch (Figure 3-13). If the DC Service Bus is not powered, the navigation lights are powered by DC Bus !. Figure 3-13, Exterior Lighting Control Panel PURPOSES ONLY 11 Strobe Lights High intensity flashing lights are installed adja- cent to the navigation lights in each wing tip and the tail cone. They are controlled by a single switch labeled STROBE (Figure 3-13). The right strobe light is powered by the 115-volt AC Wild Bus 2 and the left and rear strobe lights are pow- ered by the 115-volt AC Wild Bus 1. Taxi and Takeoff Lights ‘Two 250-watt sealed-beam lamps are installed on the nose landing gear strut. These lights may be used for takeoff and landing to supplement the landing lights. Both are controlled by a sin- gle TAXI & T.O. switch (Figure 3-13). Both lights will automatically extinguish at gear retraction. The lights are powered by AC Wild power and controlled by DC Bus 1. Landing Lights A 450-watt quartz halogen Jamp is installed within the forward section of each landing gear bay fairing and protected by a clear lens. The lights are individually controlled by L/R LAND switches with two positions labeled ON-OFF (Figure 3-13). Each light is powered by its respective AC Wild bus reduced to 28 volts. Power is controlled by DC Bus 1 and 2, respectively. Wing Lights ‘A 100-watt sealed-beam lamp is installed on each side of the forward fuselage to observe the engine intakes and wing leading edges. One switch, labeled WING (Figure 3-13), con- trols both lights. The power supply and control for both lights is provided by DC Bus 2. Logo Lights Optional lights can be installed on the lower surface of each horizontal stabilizer to illumi- nate the company insignia on the vertical stabi- lizer. Both lights are controlled by a single LOGO switch (Figure 3-13). Power and con- trol is from the DC Service Bus. 3-12 FOR TRANG FURFOSES ONLY FlightSafety ATR 42 PILOT TRAINING MANUAL EMERGENCY Emergency exterior lighting (Figure 3-14) is installed within the passenger door steps and flush with the fuselage. This lighting illumi- nates the ground in the immediate vicinity of the airplane for emergency evacuation. A light is installed in the bottom step riser of the front and/or rear passenger stairs facing horizontally outward and lighting the ground after the stairs are lowered. Lights are also flush-mounted in the fuselage near the passenger door(s) and adjacent to the right and left emergency window exits. These are set at an angle to illuminate the ground near the airplane. If in the ARMED position, the lights illumi- nate automatically if both DC generators are lost or the Emergency Bus drops below 18 volts. They also can be manually activated by placing the EMER EXIT LT switch to ON. ABNORMAL/ EMERGENCY/ PROCEDURES ‘The following abnormal and emergency check- list procedures relate to the lighting system. + ACW Failure + DC Bus 2 Failure + Battery Power Only ACW FAILURE A total loss of ACW power will be indicated by CCAS Level 2 alerts, an illuminated amber ELEC light on the CAP, illuminated amber FAULT lights in both ACW generator pushbut- tons and both illuminated amber ACW BUS OFF lights on the AC WILD ELEC PWR panel. AUGUST 1995 With total ACW failure, the following lights are not available: AUGUST 1995 Landing lights Taxi and takeoff lights Strobe lights Normal cockpit instrument panel lights Emergency instrument panel lights are available from the AC Standby Bus.
