Class notes: Nail enhancements bases on mixing liquids and powders together are commonly referred to as acrylic nails. Acrylic (methacrylate) nail enhancements are created by combining monomer liquid and polymer powder; thus the common name liquid and powder system.
Liquid and powder nail enhancements. Liquid and powder products can be applied in three basic ways: 1. Applied to the natural nail as a protective overlay 2. Over a nail tip 3. Sculpted to extend the natural nail using a flexible form. A natural hair brush is the best device to use in applying these products. The tip of the brush is then touched to the surface of the dry polymer powder, and as the monomer liquid absorbs the polymer powder, a small bead of product forms. This small bead is then carefully placed on the nail surface and molded into shape with the brush. The polymer powder is made using a special chemical reaction called polymerization. In this process, trillions of monomers are linked together to create long chains. These long chains create the tiny beads of polymer powder used to create certain types of artificial nails.

Acrylic (methacrylate) polymer powder. Polymer powder in white, clear, natural, pink, and many other colors is available. Nail dehydrator. Apply liberally to natural nail plate only and avoid skin contact. Nail dehydrators remove surface moisture and tiny amounts of oil left on the natural nail plate, both of which can block adhesion

Acrylic (methacrylate) nail enhancements take 24 to 48 hours to reach peak strength. -Nail forms -Nail tips Nail adhesive. There are many types of nail adhesives used for secreting nail tips to the natural nails, but they are all based on cyanoacrylate monomers. Adhesives have a short shelf life and can expire within 6 months after the date of purchase, depending on usage and storage conditions. Dappen dish. These dishes must have narrow openings to minimize evaporation of the monomer into the air. Each time the crush is dipped into the dappen dish, the remaining monomer is contaminated with small amounts of polymer powder. -Nail brush -Safety eyewear -Dust masks and protective gloves For many nail salon related applications, gloves made of nitrille polymer work best. Note: Be careful not to cut into the Hyponychium under the free edge. Notes: You will pick up a bead of product-and it should have medium consistency, not runny or wet- that is large enough for shaping the entire free-edge extensions.
Acrylic (methacrylate) nail post- service Clean brush according to the manufacturers instructions. Note-Place second bead of acrylic on free edge. To use medium consistency and place it on the nail plate below the first bead and next to the free edge line in the center of the nail.

Maintenance and removal of acrylic (methacrylate) nail enhancements. Rebalancing is a method for maintaining the beauty, durability, and longevity of artificial nail enhancements. In rebalancing, the nail is thinned down, the apex of the nail will be removed, and the entire nail enhancement is thickness. Crack repair is the addition of enhancement product to repair cracks. Removal Among other things, professional removal prevents natural nail bed damage.
Odorless acrylic (methacrylate) products In general, odorless products must be used with a dry mix ratio (equal parts liquid and powder in bead). -Note using a medium-coarse abrasive (120 to 180 grit), carefully smooth down the ledge of the existing product until it is flush with the new growth of nail plate. Odorless products harden more slowly, which creates the tacky layer called the inhibition layer. Colored acrylic (methacrylate) powders Polymer powders are now available in a wide of colors that mimic almost every shade available in nail polish. Nail artistry with acrylic (methacrylate) nails is limited only by your imagination.
Instructor must evaluate students and review homework before test. Must give the student a final score test
El maestro deber evaluar al estudiante y repasar tarea antes de tomar el examen. Devera darle a la estudiante el resultado final del examen. Referencia libro de texto Cosmetologa Estndar Miladys 2008
