STATUS OF WOMEN.
In India a woman is worshiped as Devi Durga and Laxmi. Ironically, even after so many years of independence and becoming one of the fastest growing countries of the world, a girl in India is still considered as a burden and is brutally murdered. In fact, it is the women folk who do it more. So, as a woman I feel do we really have the right to be called Devi Maa?
CURRENT SCENERIO.
The Girl Child .. 1 out of every 3 girls does not live to see her 15th birthday . One-third of these deaths take place at birth . Every sixth girl childs death is due to gender discrimination . Females are victimised far more than males during childhood . 1 out of every 10 women reported some kind of child sexual abuse during childhood, chiefly by known persons Death rate among girls below the age of 4 years is higher than that of boys. Even if she escapes infanticide or foeticide, a girl child is less likely to receive immunisation, nutrition or medical treatment compared to a male child 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate Every year 27,06,000 children under 5 years die in India. And the deaths of girl children are higher than those of male children.
CONSEQUENCES
Adverse effect on the mental and physical health of mother. Declining sex ratio. Violence against women. Forced polyandry. Child prostitution.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO
Change the mindset of people. Ban on ultra sound during pregnancy Educating the masses. Awareness campaign. Invite the youth to take part in campaign because they are the future parents Raise voice against this issue.
PREVENTIVE MEASURE
Strict law enforcement against dowry. Stings operation and raids. Media publicity. Registration of scan centers and action against unregistered prenatal diagnostic centers.
Public education in local languages through community radios, tv, posters for changing mindset of people.
Assured schooling,healthcare,employment and legal equality to daughter. Involvement of mass media reaching wider areas for eliminating this social evil. Involvement of NGOs/social welfare agencies. Tightening screws of PC and PNDT Act
Who?
Male or Female, although most are females. Single, dating or married. Heterosexual or homosexual. Living together or separated.
What? Emotional or psychological abuse. Physical abuse. Sexual abuse. Financial abuse. Criminal or non-criminal. The need of one partner to control the other partner.
Where?
Sexual violence..
Forced sexual intercourse. Any act of sexual nature to abuse, humiliate or degrade you or otherwise violate your dignity or any other unwelcomed conduct of sexual nature.
Economic violence
Not providing money for food, clothes, medicines etc for maintaining you or your children. Not allowing you to work. Taking away your income , salary, wages etc. & not allowing you to use it. Forcing you out of the house. Stopping you from accessing or using any part of the house. Forcing you to wear particular type of clothes.
Consequences.
Effect on the victim, himself/herself & the family.

Educating women to fight for their rights. Provide them with financial as well as moral support. Taking strict actions against people involved in domestic violence or female foeticide.
Let us live the life given by Almighty STOP Female Foeticide and Domestic Violence.
