Many court cases at this time struck down segregation of the races in the United States, blacks were

restricted by laws from a variety of public areas such as golf courses, swimming pool, and etc. The 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka made separate schools for blacks illegal. Biographical Information
Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to Norton Little and Earl Little. He was one of eight children. Due to death threats his family and him were forced to move twice before his fourth birthday. In 1925 Malcolms home in Lansing was burned to the ground and about two years later his fathers body was found on the towns trolley tracks. Malcolm was a smart student, he graduated Junior High at the top of his class. When his favorite teacher told him that the dream of becoming a lawyer is not a dream for a nigger he dropped out.

Influence On The World


Malcolm X had a significant influence on black militant leaders and on the philosophy of black militancy. He fought for the civil rights of blacks, he is known as the greatest and most influential African Americans in history. He had a number of obstacles such as him not being able to graduate because he had no support. Another obstacle is he went to prison for burglary, hanging out with the wrong people. He also didnt really have his father because he died when he was young.

Publications/Awards

In 1963, the New York Times reported that Malcolm X was the second most sought after speaker in the United States. On June 29, 1963 Malcolm lead the Unity Rally in Harlem. It was one of the nations largest civil rights events. After befriending and ministering to boxer Cassius Clay, the boxer decides to convert to the Muslim religion and join the Nation of Islam. In February 1964, Clay announces he has changed his name to Muhammad Ali. In March 1964, after his split with the NOI, Malcolm forms the Muslim Mosque, Inc. Several months later, he also organizes the Organizations of Afro-American Unity (OAAU). Malcolm's autobiography, which he worked on for two years with writer Alex Haley, was published in November 1965.
