Learning issue: What is responsible for raising Jimmy's heart and respiratory rate and stimulating sweating just before the race? Idea: He was nervous. Thus, the brain get the signal from the nervous system causing his heart and respiratory rate

Fact: These last few seconds before the race were the most stressful--you could feel the tension in the air Learning issue: Why is the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system active just before the race? Idea: The autonomic nervous system become more active in stress. Any actions during stress response will comprise the hyperarousel

Fact: The changes in digestive and urinary system at the start point
Learning issue: What changes do you think are occurring in the digestive and urinary systems at this time? Idea: Digestive system feedback start to occur. Body mechanism acts as heater to maintain the internal fluid environment. Urinary system need to work over time as to maintain the electrolytes, water and acidbase balanced in body.

Fact: Level of blood glucose Jimmy before the race Learning issue: What is happening to Jimmy's blood glucose levels just before the race? Idea: Blood glucose levels start to drop

Fact: Jimmy mouth was dry Learning issue: Why is Jimmy's mouth dry? Idea: Production of saliva slowed as the salivary gland slow down the excretion of saliva
