PURPOSE
The purpose of this project is to improve the management of important document files and books at the Defence Central Library through the use of RFID

Introduction
What is RFID ?

Radio Frequency Identification

A micro-chip in a label used to transmit data when the label is exposed to radio waves

RFID application requires

Pentium-based system (Windows XP) Windows 98/ME/2000/XP Operating System Microsoft Access 2003 (ADO access) TEXAS INSTRUMENTS (TI) RFID reader Antenna Microsoft Visual Basic 6 (VB6) TIs FECOM and FEISC libraries

RFID SYSTEM INCLUDES..

Transponder

The transponder consists of a microchip attached to an antenna

Reader or interogator

The reader is a device that does the communication from and to the transponders through radio waves

Antenna

The antenna is used to transmit and receive the radio waves in the form of RF signal
Software

The software acts as a middleware, the data captured by the reader is converted into a format that is perceivable by the system

Features
RFID enabled library for Cataloging of books ,

members Logical rotation of books in shelves Flexibility in searching information Centralized database User identification through their rfid tags/smart cards Security features include a login procedure with password protection or both, the librarian as well as the member, for security purpose Demand Tracking Statistics and crystal report generation Web based module

Cataloging
The cataloging includes tagging of materials

with RFID tags and the database entry of its details. Our system supports cataloging of books, members. The details of materials like title, author, publisher, publication year are entered into the database

Statistics and Report Generation

The system provides various reports which

are helpful for librarians and users Books rotation Demand Tracking

Web Interface
Web interface allows users to access

the system through intranet or internet Online search of Books User login Online reservation of books

RFID IN THE DEFENCE LIBRARY
