Example:

STYGIAN- \STIJ-ee-uhn\,
adjective:
1. [Often capitalized] Of or
pertaining to the river Styx,
the principal river of the
underworld in Greek
mythology; hence, hellish;
infernal.
2. Dark and dismal.

Example:
The night was cold and eerie, as a
stygian fog enveloped the duo.
VERDURE- \VUR-jur\,
noun:
Green; greenness;
freshness of vegetation.

Example:
“The countryside
greeted us with lush
verdure, a sight I have
so longed for since I
moved to the bustling
city.”
DIADEM- \DY-uh-dem\,
noun:
1. A crown.
2. An ornamental
headband worn (as by
Eastern monarchs) as a
badge of royalty.

Example:

ANODYNE- \AN-uh-dyn\, adjective:
1. Serving to relieve pain; soothing.
2. Not likely to offend; bland;
innocuous.
noun:
1. A medicine that relieves pain.
2. Anything that calms, comforts, or
soothes disturbed feelings.

Example:
The shaman concocted an anodyne
that cured the strange disease that
plagued the village.

DOO\, noun;

A love letter or note.

Example:

Example:

One who is self-taught.

Example:

INDOLENT- \IN-duh-

1. Avoiding labor and
exertion; habitually idle;
lazy; inactive.
2. Conducive to or
encouraging laziness or
inactivity.

Example:
The indolent employees
were laid off during the
last company meeting.
FEBRILE- \FEB-ruhl; FEE-
bruhl; -bryl\, adjective:
Of or pertaining to fever;
indicating fever or derived
from it; feverish.

Example:
The gypsy palm reader
looked pale and febrile as
she told us our future.
MORIBUND- \MOR-uh-
bund\, adjective:
In a dying state; dying;
at the point of death.

Example:
Aunt Leslie’s plants
looked moribund, just
after being neglected
for a couple of days.
SCAPEGRACE- \SKAYP-grayss\,
noun:
A reckless, unprincipled person;
one who is wild and reckless; a
rascal; a scoundrel.

Example:
Anton is a thief, a liar and a
cheater; he is a true
scapegrace.
