The spatula-tailed hummingbird, marvelous hummingbird

(Loddigesia mirabilis) is a species of
hummingbird of medium size
(up to 15 cm) of blue, green
and copper colors with a
violet crest, the only
member of the
genus Loddigesia.
DESCRIPCIÓN:
El colibrí cola de espátula, colibrí maravilloso o colibrí admirable (Loddigesia mirabilis) es una especie de colibrí de tamaño mediano (hasta 15 cm) y colores azul, verde y
cobre de cresta violeta, el único miembro del género Loddigesia.
HABITAT:
This bird is
endemic to
the Utucumba
river basin,
(Huembo)
in the high
jungle of
northern
Peru. It
was first
described
in 1853.
Esta ave es endémica de la cuenca del río
Utcubamba (huembo), en la selva alta del
norte del Perú. Fue descrita por primera
vez en 1853
 MAIN FEATURES:
It is unique among birds. Its most outstanding
characteristic is the presence in the male of two long outer
tail feathers that cross each other and end in two
"Spatulas", which can move independently and its tail is
twice its height.
CARACTERÍSTICAS PRINCIPALES:
Es único entre las aves .
Su característica más destacada es la
presencia en el macho de dos largas plumas
exteriores en la cola que se cruzan
mutuamente y terminan en dos "Espátulas",
que puede moverlas independientemente y
su cola mide el doble de su altura.
 CAUSES OF ITS EXTINTION:
Due to the constant loss of its habitat, its hunting by the natives (to keep its tail
and heart), its small population and its limited range, the spatula-tailed
hummingbird is evaluated within the Red List of Threatened Species concluding
that This bird is threatened or about to become extinct.

CAUSAS DE SU EXTINCIÓN:
Dado a la constante pérdida de su
hábitat(árboles),
su caza por parte de los nativos (para
ontener su cola y corazón), su población
pequeña y su limitado rango, el colibrí cola
de espátula es evaluado dentro de la Lista
Roja de Especies Amenazadas
concluyendo que esta ave se encuentra
amenazada o a punto de extinguirse.
