Aim To formulate the optimum proportions of mineral admixtures for the blended cement (Cement + FA + SF + MK) to achieve the strength more than 100 Mpa. The main objective of this research is to constitute a blended cement concrete with high mechanical properties The effect of mineral admixtures on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Portland cement concrete is to be investigated.
Preliminary Investigation Determination of optimum proportions of mineral admixtures for the blended cement. Fineness for the blended cement. Setting time. Soundness . Specific gravity.
Mix Design Mix Design based on Meth and Aitcin Simplified Method.
Strength ranging 100 Mpa Selection of binder
100 % of Portland cement to be used.
Mix containing 100 % PPC is considered as a control mix, were this PPC is replaced by blended cement having optimum proportions of mineral admixtures
Mechanical properties Specimens to be casted for the test at 1, 3, 7 and 28th days. Compressive Strength, Modulus of Elasticity and Poissons ratio are to be determined. Ultrasonic pulse velocity test is to be conducted before loading the specimen to determine its quality. Based on the results a detailed discussions to be made and an analytical models to be created.
Microstructure Study Microstructure properties for the specimens at an age of 3, 7 and 28th day to be determined. Were SEM and XRD techniques are to be used for this analysis to determine particle size, chemical composition and etc,. Hydration processes of the Blended Cement Paste based on the Microstructure analysis is to be carried out. Based on the results a detailed discussions and comparisons are to be made.
