The Goal of Antimicrobial Therapy

The Captain

“The most effective strategy against antimicrobial

resistance is to get the job done right first time –
Resistance to unequivocally destroy microbes – thereby
Recurrence defeating resistance before it starts.”

When choosing an antimicrobial …
The Captain

When choosing an antimicrobial it is important that all the major pathogens are considered,
including the possibility of resistant strains.

S. pneumoniae is the most common causative pathogen in paediatric AOM.
Curam has the highest overall coverage of any oral agent for penicillin intermediate strains of S.pneumoniae
and is the only oral agent to provide adequate coverage for penicillin resistant S.pneumoniae.
Well distributed into most body tissues and extracellular fluids, including middle ear mucosa and middle ear
effusions.

AOM pathogen prevalence have produced higher rates of antibiotic resistance among
S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae.

The most active drugs across the board against all isolates in this
study were ceftriaxone and high-dose amoxicillin plus clavulanic
acid.

The Captain

In recent years, an important factor affecting the management

of Acute Otitis Media ( AOM) has been the increasing
development of antimicrobial resistance.

Among the common pathogens that cause AOM ,

particularly the worldwide prevalence of resistant
streptococcus pneumoniae.

The development of new dosage forms of Curam allows it to

continue to fill its important role in therapy.
Why 642?
The Captain

Curam 642 allows dosing with 90/6.4 mg/ kg

Oral dosing regimen of 90/6.4 mg /kg amoxicillin/clavulanic acid

per day in Two divided doses
produces serum concentration of 4 mg/L for at least 40% of
dosing interval

Consequently pathogens ( mainly Strept. Pneumoniae ) with

MIC up to 4 mg/L are susceptible and likely to be eradicated
with Curam 642
