STAR WARS

STAR WARS
THE EMPIRE AND THE NEW ORDER
Those who remember the dark days of the Empire know that the tyranny of Palpatine appeared
absolute and unshakable. Emperor Palpatine himself boasted that his Empire would last for a thousand
years or more. But the Empire was so corrupt and amoral that internal resistance sprang up shortly
after Palpatine took control, growing stronger with each brutal atrocity. The conflict of Empire and
Rebellion is known as the Galactic Civil War, and it is the single most important era of our history.

Birth of the Empire - approx. 5O ~ 18 B.B.Y.

A history of the Empire should not simply begin with the dark day on which Palpatine declared himself
Emperor. Rather, students must consider the circumstances that led to an atmosphere in which such
an event was possible in the first place. The Old Republic existed for a thousand generations; how
could it have been overthrown so suddenly?

The Republic fell victim to its own success. The sprawling representative government sought to
oversee territory spanning a large portion of the galaxy, and a cumbersome set of checks and balances
made simple decisions impossible. Too many senators and planetary governors began to adopt the view
that the existing system of government, nearly as old as history itself, would continue through sheer
force of inertia. They no longer put their best efforts into enacting legislation and meeting the needs
of their constituents. The Republic grew stagnant. Laziness and complacency became the
rule, and with laziness came corruption.

Nevertheless, certain officials still attempted ambitious and grandiose projects. One example was the
Katana fleet, named after its flagship. This armada of two hundred slave-rigged Dreadnaughts
promised to be the pride of the Republic navy. Unfortunately, a hive virus caused the crew of the
flagship Katana to go mad. They jumped their ship into random hyperspace coordinates, and the slave
rig brought the other 199 vessels along for the ride, where they would remain undiscovered for over
half a century.

The fiasco further eroded the public's already waning confidence in the Republic's leadership. The
crafty Senator Palpatine of Naboo watched the government's decay with a practiced eye and a knowing
smile. Palpatine, a sectorial senator representing many star systems, was one of the Senate's most
experienced and respected members. He saw the time drawing near when the disgusted citizenry
would cry out for stronger leadership, and he set his plans in motion behind the scenes. Perhaps the
greatest obstacle to his dreams of glory would be the Jedi Knights.
STAR WARS

decisiones simples fueran imposibles. Demasiados senadores y gobernadores planetarios comenzaron a

STAR WARS
THE BATTLE OF GALIDRAAN 40 B.B.Y.

The Battle of Galidraan marked the end of the Mandalorian Civil War, a conflict
between the True Mandalorians and the Mandalorian Death Watch that had been
sizzling for over quarter century. Following the Mandalorians extinction of the
Ithullans a century and half earlier, some clan members had expressed a desire to
shed the amoral ways of the “Mandalorian Mercs”. Eventually, the charismatic
Jaster Mereel came to lead the clans as Mandalore, and set down an idealistic code
of conduct in the Supercommando Codex. A Mandalorian named Vizsla attracted
followers fond of the old ways, who formed the Death Watch faction. Armed
conflict broke out approximately 60 B.B.Y.

Vizla succeded in killing Jaster Mereel, but Mereel`s role as head of the True
Mandalorians was filled by Jango Fett. After decades of infighting. Galidraan was to
be the end of the Death Watch-but instead it proved to be the end of four thousand
years of Mandalorian dominance.

The governor of Galidraan informed Jango Fett that he would give up Vizla`s
location if Jango`s troops terminated a group of local rebels. They did so, only to
learn that the governor and the Death Watch had set Jango up. Protesting to the
Republic that the True Mandalorians had slaughtered innocents, the governor called
in a Jedi peacekeeping force lead by Master Dooku and his Padawan, Komani Vosa.
The Mandalorian army fought to the last man; only their commander Jango
survived, to become the prisoner of slavers.

The once great Mandalorian power had been forever gutted. Besides Jango, only
Vizla and few surviving Death Watch members remained active in the galaxy, while
a small regiment of troopers remained on the planet Mandalore as a home guard.
STAR WARS
THE BATTLE OF GALIDRAAN 40 B.B.Y.

trampa a Jango.

GENERAL GRIEVOUS
The debilitating transformation required Grievous to recuperate for a number of months. They then presented their cyborg killer to Count Dooku as a gift.

(22 B.B.Y.) In his new form, Grievous was first unleashed within the catacombs of Geonosis during the preliminary battle of the Clone Wars, where he
facilitated the Separatist Council`s escape from the Republic forces by killing entire clone trooper companies and a number of Jedi with his steel claws.
Grievous left none alive and began his ritual of collecting lightsabers as spoils of war. Though Grievous was active at the time of the Battle of Geonosis, no
Jedi had reported his existence as none had escaped his presence alive. Although Grievous participated in the Battle of Geonosis, none who face him survived
to warn the Republic.

Dooku was at first taken aback by so bizarre an underling. But he and Darth Sidious saw potential. Dooku was impressed with Grievous` performance and
decided to begin his training in earnest. The Sith Lord gave Grievous the lightsaber belonging to the late Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, whose midi-chlorian rich
blood (from his cryogenically frozen corpse) had been used to keep Grievous alive after his shuttle crash. Dooku began training Grievous in the ways of the
lightsaber. He was dismayed that the subtleties and finesse of lightsaber combat had been discarded in favor of brutal, multi-weapon attacks, but so go the
changes of war. Already an expert swordsman, Grievous quickly picked up the classic styles of Jedi lightsaber combat. General Grievous is a master strategist
and the greatest hand-to-hand Jedi killer the galaxy has ever known.

(21,67 B.B.Y.) Soon after Geonosis, Grievous was let loose on Space Station Trenchant against the Confederacy commanders Asajj Ventress and Durge, whom
he bested handily. At his hidden base aboard the Trenchant space station, Dooku pit his minions Asajj Ventress and Durge up against Grievous to determine
who would be the commander of the Separatist droid army. Grievous emerged victorious. It was the last test of Grievous` skills, and afterward he was
granted the tittle Supreme Commander of the Separatist droid army…a position that put him on par with Count Dooku. (Clone Wars Adventures vol 3)

(21,66 B.B.Y. ~ 4 months) Before long, the entire galaxy came to know of Grievous` existence. Jedi General Daakman Barrek first reported Grievous'
frightening form on the industrial world of Hypori, where Grievous laid waste to almost all of Barrek's forces. Grievous` exploits following his “debut” on
the planet Hypori are well chronicled: He embarked on a Jedi-slaughtering spree that encompassed many worlds in many systems. The fact that he is a
powerful villain made it even cooler.

(21 B.B.Y. ~ 19 B.B.Y.) He orchestrated many campaigns from sheltered bunkers, but he was not afraid to fight alongside his soulless troops in the frontlines
of the battlegrounds. For three years, he led the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems to Banvhar Station, Nadiem, Togoria, Duro, Vandos,
Xagobah, Belderone, Kashyyyk, and a score of worlds in between, moving inexorably toward infamous final strike at Coruscant, in which he personally
kidnapped the Republic Supreme Chancellor. (SW Insider 86)
DURGE
JOZIC: Brian, are you going to be hanging around the Star Wars line for the foreseeable future or will you be moving
on after “The Battle of Jabiim”?

CHING: I hope so. I have so much fun working on this stuff and there's still two more years before Episode III comes
out so that's a lot more adventures of Obi-Wan and Anakin to tell before Anakin turns bad.

JOZIC: In Republic #'s 51 and 52, you introduce a new character called Durge who is kind of a Boba Fett to the Nth
degree kind of guy. I'd heard somewhere that he was developed as a joint effort between Lucasfilm, DHC and Hasbro,
is that correct?

BLACKMAN: Actually, this was true of both Durge and Asajj Ventress, a dark Jedi character who also appears in #51
for the first time. Lucasfilm wanted to establish two villains to challenge the Jedi during the Clone Wars era. Both
villains had to be very tough and memorable. They also needed to be designed for use in multiple sources including
comics, novels, cartoons and toys.

The characters started with the visuals - the first concepts for the characters actually came from prequel concept
artists at Lucasfilm, though I believe Hasbro had some input as well. I was given the concept art and wrote up their
backstories, descriptions of their personalities, and whatever else I could to flesh out the characters. Naming the
characters was sort of a group effort at Lucasfilm.

Beyond that, we knew very little about the character. I had only been told that he needed to be a bounty hunter who
could be used as a major Confederacy villain. I felt that, in order for him to be taken seriously as a villain, he needed
to be able to defeat Jedi. That meant that he also had to be basically superhuman. We haven't revealed much of his
backstory, but he is a pretty powerful alien with abilities that make him a perfect foe for the Jedi. He can take a
ridiculous amount of punishment, for example. I also established a connection with the Clone Troopers, through a
sort of rivalry with Jango.

JOZIC: He seems kind of unconventional as far as Star Wars characters go in both look and deed.

BLACKMAN: His personality developed as I was writing Issue #51. Ventress and Durge murder thousands of Gungans
with an experimental weapon, so that suggested a really brutal and callous character. But, I also tried to give him a
sense of humor. (http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/features/105137402377985.htm)
DURGE
The Birth of Bane

Early in the development of The Clone Wars animated series, the notion of so-called "third party" villains was off the
table -- the initial focus remained strongly on the struggle between the forces of the Republic versus the Separatists.
But as season one progressed, there came a role that needed to be filled by a bounty hunter.

At first, series Supervising Director Dave Filoni and series writer Henry Gilroy explored bringing in the bounty hunter
Durge, a character introduced in the 2003 incarnation of The Clone Wars comics and animation. Durge was
reimagined as a human character, and his more outlandish alien features were redesigned, but this exploration was
short-lived.

It evolved into an iteration of a bounty hunter character named Nom Kahbah. Kahbah retained Durge's all-concealing
armor, though the lines were smoothed out to resemble something, perhaps, out of World War II Germany.
Ultimately, George Lucas suggested another direction -- West. Or rather, the iconic characters of the spaghetti
Westerns that so inspired the original Star Wars movies. (Cad Bane Databank)

Pablo Hidalgo: The son falling to the dark side was always in the mix. The movies just ended up having it already an

Pablo Hidalgo: Skyler was the son in some versions. And as for how all that was gonna go down, that ain’t my story to tell.

Phil Szostak: In late summer 2013, the Visualists were let in on two secrets that would not be revealed to the rest of the world
for another year and a half: that the beloved Han Solo would meet his end in The Force Awakens, dispatched by the malevolent
Jedi Killer---and that the Jedi Killer would be Han and Leia Organa's son. "This was big," Christian Alzmann said in September of
2013. "We found out that, at essentially the same running time in A New Hope when Obi-Wan gets killed, Han will get killed by
the Jedi Killer---by his son! That's super-Biblical stuff, heavy stuff! I had a feeling that Harrison would love it; he's wanted Han to
die for a while. (The Last Jedi Artbook - 2017)
REY / TARYN
What did George`s treatments for SW 7 look like? I would love to see if they fit the EU.
Pablo Hidalgo: They did not. George's starting point for for this trilogy didn’t have Jaina, Jacen, Anakin and Chewie
never died. So yeah. George Lucas never considered Jacen, Jaina, or Mara [Jade] as part of his universe.

Might I ask if you ever received any direction that George Lucas disagreed with the number of children the Solos
had as depicted in the EU?
Pablo Hidalgo: Lets just say George Lucas disagrees with the number of kids Leía and Han have in the books.
(January 7, 2019)

I feel like those were mentioned in the Art of TFA. I’m assuming these were meant to be Leia and Han’s kids
cause Luke never married in GL’s vision of the ST?
Pablo Hidalgo: I doubt he was referencing Jaina and Jacen and Anakin. Might have been referencing Skyler and then
"JK".

Is this from the fanon that Rey was a Solo until late on (as per GL’s treatment) but got changed to ‘random’?
Pablo Hidalgo: I don’t think anyone online knows enough about that to reliably comment on it.” (August 30, 2016)

And “Kira” was always the hero/chosen one of this trilogy based on my understanding, getting a “Colonel Kurtz-
esque” Luke to train her after he retreated from the galaxy.
Pablo Hidalgo: Yep. That was the core of it.

ASAJJ VENTRESS
AUDITION ON RATTATAK (21.9 B.B.Y.) Years later, when Count Dooku sought out planets to join the Separatist, he
ventured to Rattatak and found Ventress. She introduces herself to him as Asajj Ventress, a Sith warrior. Count
Dooku discovered the mysterious Asajj Ventress on a war-torn planet shortly after the Battle of Geonosis She
eventually was discovered by Count Dooku and became his most trusted commander. Recognizing her talents, Dooku
enlisted her to join his fight against the Jedi. He gave her twin curved-handeld lightsabers that can be joined to form
a double-bladed weapon. Although neither Jedi nor Sith, Ventress wielded a pair of curved-handled lightsabers with
incredible skill. Asajj has perfected a lightsaber combat form that uses paired blades to strike and parry.
GEORGE LUCAS EPISODE VII
Paul Duncan: What about the stormtroopers? They look robotic, but they’re not.
George Lucas: Yeah. They started out as clones. Once all the clones were killed, the Empire picked up recuits, like
militia. They fought, but they weren`t very good at what they did.

Paul Duncan: That`s why they kept missing.

George Lucas: That`s why they kept missing. The after the Rebels won, there were no more stormtroopers in my
version of the third trilogy. I had planned for the first trilogy to be about the father, the second trilogy to be about
the son, and the third trilogy to be about the daughter and the grandchildren. Episodes VII, VIII, and IX would take
ideas from what happened after the Iraq War. Okay, you fought the war, you killed everybody, now what are you
going to do?’ Rebuilding afterwards is harder than starting a rebellion or fighting the war. When you win the war and
you disband the opposing army, what do they do? The stormtroopers would be like Saddam Hussein’s Ba’athist fighters
that joined ISIS and kept on fighting. The stormtroopers refuse to give up when the Republic win. They want to be
stormtroopers forever, so they go to a far corner of the galaxy, start their own country, and their own rebellion.

There’s a power vacuum so gangsters, like the Hutts, are taking advantage of the situation, and there is chaos. The
key person is Darth Maul, who had been resurrected in The Clone Wars cartoons—he brings all the gangs together.

Paul Duncan: Was Darth Maul the main villain?

George Lucas: Yeah, but he’s very old, and we have two versions of him. One is with a set of cybernetic legs like a
spider, and then later on he has metal legs and he was a little bit bigger, more of a superhero. We did all this in the
animated series, he was in a bunch of episodes. Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the comic books,
as his apprentice. She was the new Darth Vader, and most of the action was with her. So these were the two main
villains of the trilogy. Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire
falls, he takes over.

The movies are about how Leia—I mean, who else is going to be the leader?— is trying to build the Republic. They
still have the apparatus of the Republic but they have to get it under control from the gangsters. That was the main
story.

It starts out a few years after Return of the Jedi and we establish pretty quickly that there's this underworld, there
are these offshoot stormtroopers who started their own planets, and that Luke is trying to restart the Jedi. He puts
the word out, so out of 100,000 Jedi, maybe 50 or 100 are left. The Jedi have to grow again from scratch, so Luke
has to find two- and three-year-olds, and train them. It'll be 20 years before you have a new generation of Jedi.

By the end of the trilogy Luke would have rebuilt much of the Jedi, and we would have the renewal of the New
Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything. So she ended up
being the Chosen One.

AHSOKA TANO (ASHLA)
When The Clone Wars began development in 2005, the character that would become Ahsoka was part of a ragtag crew and envisioned by
Dave Filoni under a different name: Ashla.

It’s hard to imagine now, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars almost wasn’t a story about Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
Supervising Director Dave Filoni’s original vision for the series, scribbled on a piece of lined paper, involved a band of misfit scoundrels
aboard a freighter and operating on the fringes of the galactic conflict. It would have included a Padawan Learner named Ashla, and her
Jedi Master on assignment with the crew, working to aid the war effort by dealing with arms dealers and crime bosses like the Hutt clan. It
would have occasionally brought the pair back to the frontlines to defend the Republic.

But before the idea came to fruition, George Lucas stepped in, offering a guiding hand to bring Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi back into the
spotlight to explore the heat of the battle with characters that already had a foothold in the war. Ashla became Anakin’s Padawan,
Ahsoka. And the rest is history.

Filoni: We called her Ashla in the beginning. That was 2005, and that worked on several levels for me. I think it was the name given to one
of the [young Jedis Yoda was training] in Attack of the Clones. There was a little Togruta girl. We kicked around the idea that maybe that
was Ahsoka but then we thought the age didn’t really work out for it to be the same character. She was too young in the film.

But prior to The Clone Wars, no one had known that Anakin Skywalker taught an apprentice — no one, that is, except George Lucas.
[George] said, 'This is going to be Anakin Skywalker's padawan because I want him to have a padawan. People don't expect that and it will
add a way to give him somebody to teach, and it creates a great dynamic between him and Obi-Wan and her.' And at first it seems like,
well that's a far-out idea. Growing up, I never thought Anakin had a padawan. That's why George is George. He just perceives things and
trusts his instincts and goes for it and ends up creating a character that now is beloved.

Master Yoda had devised a plan to help Anakin Skywalker overcome his attachment issues by assigning a Padawan to him. The idea was that
as Anakin trained the young Jedi he would see her become more self-sufficient, able to take care of herself, and thus learn to let go of his
over-protective nature.

Eckstein: That movie threat has been with me from the beginning, because fans would say, Okay, well, she’s not in Episode II, and
she’s not in Episode III, so therefore she must die. I remember at convention after convention, fans would say, Ahsoka is going to
die. It wasn’t even a question. I always said, How do you know she has to die? What if something else happens?

Filoni: I thought that there was a possibility that the character died before the end of The Clone Wars, but I didn’t really want the
character to exist just to become another thing that pushed Anakin [to the dark side.] If that was an important element of his story, it
would have been in the movies.

Richau: She’s not a Jedi. Not because she couldn’t be, but because she chose a different path. Ahsoka choosing to leave the Jedi Order
was one of the most powerful moments of The Clone Wars series and I think is one of the most important stories in all of Star Wars. She
left the Order, but she didn’t stop helping people. She went her own way and helped take down the Empire. So I wouldn’t call her a Jedi or
a padawan. She’s a hero.

CLONE CAPTAIN
ALPHA (A-17) / REX (CC-7567)
Clone Captain Rex was originally set to be Alpha-17 from the old Dark Horse Star Wars: Republic line. Hidalgo revealed the
character’s origins, but creators balked at the alliteration of pairing Ahsoka, Anakin, and Alpha-17 together, like the A-Team.
“So, George changed the name Alpha to Rex”

(CC-7567) / ALPHA (A-17) Designated CT-7567, Rex set himself apart from the thousands of other clones with his heart, leadership, and
dedication to his brothers. Captain Rex is a strong as-carbonite soldier who will never surrender. A battle-tested trooper, Rex never
backs down from a fight.

One of the most respected clone trainers on Kamino, ARC trooper Alpha-17 (Rex) serves through the first year of the Clone Wars in
engagements on Ohma-D`un, Jabiim, and like all ARC troopers of his day Kamino itself.

Often working alongside Jedi luminaries such as General Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Skywalker. Anakin Skywalker wouldn’t have been
the Jedi general he was without Captain Rex by his side. He viewed military service as an honor, and he always completed his mission.
Fond of using two blaster pistols at the same time, Rex customized his armor with distinctive blue markings. His loyalty to the Republic
and his Jedi Generals was absolute.

(32 B.B.Y.) Born on Kamino. Unlike the standard infantry clone trooper or even clone commandos, ARC troopers are genetically
engineered and specially trained to be as self-sufficient as possible without being entirely independent.

(22 B.B.Y.) Age 10 (20): Kamino-> Rex received advanced tactical training on Kamino, and uses his knowledge to test new battle
strategies. The ultimate supercomandos, the ARC (Advanced Recon Commando) troopers are clones who where personally trained by
Jango Fett. Only a select number of ARC troopers were bred and trained before Jangos`s untimely demise at the Battle of Geonosis.
After completing his training, he was promoted to the rank of captain and became lead instructor of the Tipoca City training facility.
Rex becomes a Captain in Torrent Company of the 501 st Battalion.

First Action: On Geonosis, Captain Rex fights alongside his fellow clone troopers against the Separatist.

(21.83 B.B.Y.) Age 11 (22): ARC troopers see their first combat when the Separatist droid army assaults Kamino and Prime Minister
Lama Su releases the troopers from their cryogenic storage to help drive off the invaders.

(21.66 B.B.Y.) Age 11 (22): They are famously employed at the Battle of Muunilinst, where they help Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi
subdue the Separatist commander, the bounty hunter Durge, and again at the Battle of Hypori, rescuing stranded Jedi from General
Grievous.

(20.66 B.B.Y.) Age 12 (24): Alpha-17 (Rex) faces off against foes as deadly as General Grievous, the bounty hunter Durge, and the Sith
apprentice Asajj Ventress. After his capture and torture by Ventress on Rattatak, and his subsequent escape, Alpha-17 (Rex) returns to
Kamino, where he began training clone commanders to be more independent and adaptive in combat, such as CC-2224 (Cody) and CC-
1138 (Bacara) -clones who, at General Skywalker`s suggestion, are given names by Alpha-17 (Rex).

(19.43 B.B.Y.) Age 13 (26): Following his stint as a trainer, Alpha-17 (Rex) serves aboard the Intervention, escorting Senator Bail
Organa on his tout of the Outer Rim Sieges. During this mission, Alpha-17 (Rex) is gravely wounded battling General Grievous.

(19.4 B.B.Y.) Age 13 (26): Battle-hardened: Heroism at Kamino and the Citadel demonstrates Captain Rex`s value as an elite soldier.

(19 B.B.Y.) Age 13 (26) Fights at Yerbana and is promoted to commander. Rex`s inhibitor chip is removed and he flees the army. Later,
he befriended the Rebellion.
REBEL ALLIANCE
(19 ~ 0 B.B.Y.) It wasn`t long before entire species-including the proud Wookiees and
the dauntless Mon Calamari – became officially sanctioned slave labor.

The most visible expression of Emperor Palpatine`s New Order became the military.
New clone hosts and new cloning facilities swelled the ranks of the stormtrooper
corps, as did the forced conscription of young humans from occupied planets.

The flame of rebellion endured in the hearts of some politicians, such as Bail Organa,
Mon Mothma, and Garm Bel Iblis. Bail Organa and Mon Mothma, sometimes
accompanied by Corellian Senator Garm Bel Iblis, began holding regular meetings in
Organa`s Cantham House residence on Coruscant to discuss organized rebellion.

(2 B.B.Y.) Less than two years before the Battle of Yavin, the Corellian Treaty was
signed –a landmark moment in the history of the revolution.

Mon Mothma negotiated a secret arrangement with the Mon Calamari shipyards that
gave the Rebels access to top of the line capital ships, while a team of defectors from
the Incom Corporation provided the Alliance with prototypes and blueprints for a new
precision attack craft the T-65 X-wing Starfighter.

(3~ 0 B.B.Y.) Just after the completion of the battle station, but before it could be
tested, a Rebel assassination attempt nearly took Grand Moff Tarkin`s life. Tarkin
avoided death, but his Mon Calamari slave Ackbar escaped to the Rebell Alliance.
Ackbar recruited several of his people and aided the Rebellion, directing such victories
as the Battle of Turkana aboard a Mon Calamari star cruiser.

of Calamari to others and returned home to oversee his territories;·

As an ever-observant slave, Ackbar learned much about the Empire and

its military, knowing that one day this information would be useful. He
learned about the Empire's theories of war, and listened to the reasons
the Empire had to change to conform to the Emperor's grand plan.

He also learned for the first time of the rebellion growing in the galaxy.
But Tarkin wasn't worried by this rebellion; he just smiled and muttered
threats of a new weapon that would make the Empire invincible.

Ackbar occasionally found himself in a position to examine secret

military documents, and devoted himself to learning all he could about
Imperial strategy and tactics, hoping against hope that he'd be able to
use it someday against the Empire. But always, the Empire's secret
weapon haunted Ackbar; all he could learn was that this weapon could
not only level a planet, but utterly destroy it.

Then came the word; they were to pack. A shuttle as to take them to the
weapon of which Tarkin had hinted: a new battle station. While in
transit, the shuttle was attacked by an elite force of Rebels that had
been sent to assassinate the Grand Moff. A Star Destroyer came to
Tarkin's aid and he escaped, but Ackbar was left behind. He fled with the
Rebels.

Devoting himself and his people to the cause of the Rebellion, Ackbar's
unique knowledge of the Empire quickly made him an indispensable part
of the Alliance. Now Admiral Ackbar and the Mon Calamari fleet battle
to restore justice to a beleaguered galaxy.

YODA - 34 A.B.Y.

MUCH TO LEARN

Luke`s isolation on the island has led him to the terrible conclusión that the Jedi are locked in an endless cycle
of destruction and rebirth that takes the Galaxy with it. He feels the Jedi Order needs to end, and seeks to
destroy the first temple and its ancient lore. From the spectral form of Yoda, however, he comes to learn that
these roots of the past do not preordain the future, and that a new generation of students must always grow
beyond what has come before. Though Rey leaves Luke feeling lost, he will find her again.

The spectral form of Yoda joins Luke beside a burning ancient Uneti tree to contemplate the nature of the
Force through generations. Though Yoda understanddably calls Luke “Young Skywalker”, they sit together as
Jedi Masters.

DARTH SIDIOUS - 35 A.B.Y.

Kylo Ren (Darth Caedus).

SITH RENACIDO

Finalmente, Rey (Taryn) acabó destruyendo a
Palpatine.

Foreboding furniture: The jagged Throne of the Sith
is reserved only for the most powerful Sith Lords on ancient Exegol.

CHARACTERS
THE BEGINNING
The story for Episode I, dubbed “The Beginning” in early drafts and through production, would center around Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn
and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Queen Amidala, and their accidental discovery of a young slave named Anakin Skywalker. Meanwhile, a seemingly
trivial planetary blockade would be the launching point of a secret Sith Lord’s plan to gain control of the Republic.

George Lucas: It’s all based on backstories that I’d written setting up what the Jedi were, setting up what the Sith were, setting up what the
Empire was, setting up what the Republic was, and how it all fit together. I spent a lot of time in developing those elements, and what each
planet did, and why they did it the way they did. So I had all this material. A lot of the story elements were givens. Early on, it was that
Anakin had been more or less created by the midi-chlorians, and that the midi-chlorians had a very powerful relationship to the Whills
[from the first draft of Star Wars], and the power of the Whills, and all that. I never really got a chance to explain the Whills part.

So a lot of the story of the prequels, I’d done already. And now I was just having to put it into a script and fill it in, kind of sew up some of
the gaps that were in there. I’d already established that all Jedi had a mentor, with Obi-Wan and Luke, and the fact that that was a bigger
issue — that’s the way the Jedi actually worked. But it was also the way that the Sith worked. There’s always the Sith Lord and then the
apprentice.

Everybody said, “Oh, well, there was a war between the Jedi and the Sith.” Well, that never happened . That’s just made up by fans or
somebody. What really happened is, the Sith ruled the universe for a while, 2,000 years ago. Each Sith has an apprentice, but the problem
was, each Sith Lord got to be powerful. And the Sith Lords would try to kill each other because they all wanted to be the most powerful. So
in the end they killed each other off, and there wasn’t anything left. So the idea is that when you have a Sith Lord, and he has an
apprentice, the apprentice is always trying to recruit somebody to join him — because he’s not strong enough, usually — so that he can kill
his master.

That’s why I call it a Rule of Two — there’s only two Sith Lords. There can’t be any more because they kill each other. They’re not smart
enough to realize that if they do that, they’re going to wipe themselves out. Which is exactly what they did.

In The Phantom Menace, Palpatine was the one Sith Lord that was left standing. And he went through a few apprentices before he was
betrayed. And that really has to do with certain talent and genes that allow you to be better at what you’re doing than other people.

People have a tendency to confuse it — everybody has the Force. Everybody. You have the good side and you have the bad side. And as Yoda
says, if you choose the bad side, it’s easy because you don’t have to do anything. Maybe kill a few people, cheat, lie, steal. Lord it over
everybody. But the good side is hard because you have to be compassionate. You have to give of yourself. Whereas the dark side is selfish.

George Lucas: Originally, I was trying to have the story be told by somebody else (an immortal being known as a Whill); there was
somebody watching this whole story and recording it, somebody probably wiser than the mortal players in the actual events. I eventually
dropped this idea, and the concepts behind the Whills turned into the Force. But the Whills became part of this massive amount of notes,
quotes, background information that I used for the scripts; the stories were actually taken from the Journal of the Whills. ( Laurent
Bouzereau (1997). Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays page 6)

George Lucas: The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills - remember that? - a
hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi (104 A.B.Y.) by none other than R2-D2. (How Star Wars Conquered the Universe – Chris
Taylor – 2014)

George Lucas: Everyone hated it in Phantom Menace [when] we started to talk about midi-chlorians. There’s a whole aspect to that movie
that is about symbiotic relationships. To make you look and see that we aren’t the boss. That there’s an ecosystem here.

James Cameron: There's an ecosystem inside us called the microbiome that they're just learning
George Lucas: [The next three ‘Star Wars’ films] were going to get into a microbiotic world. But there’s this world of creatures that operate
differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force.

James Cameron: You were creating a religion, George

George Lucas: Back in the day, I used to say ultimately what this means is we were just cars, vehicles, for the Whills to travel around in.
We're vessels for them. And the conduit is the midi-chlorians. The midi-chlorians are the ones that communicate with the Whills. The Whills,
in a general sense, they are the Force. (James Cameron`s Story of Science Fiction – 2018 Page 119)

And in the time of greatest despair there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as: THE SON OF THE SUNS."
Journal of the Whills, 3:127

The son of the suns!" The last of the Starkiller line, whom the seer's have said would bring down the Empire.
— Opening titles for George Lucas' The Star Wars, Draft 2, 1975

The Great Holocron contains many references to the prophecy of the Chosen One:
A Jedi will come to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force.
(Jedi vs Sith – page 205 - 2007)

The prophecy of the Chosen One is one of the oldest prophecies of Mortis held in the ancient Holocrons:
In the time of great despair, a child shall be born who will destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force.
(The Jedi Path – 2010 – Daniel Wallace)

A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.
(Master and Apprentice – Claudia Gray – page 93 - 2019)
ANAKIN ORIGINS
Palpatine under the sith name Darth Sidious learned dark side traditions from Plagueis, but grew concerned over his Master's stated intentions
of creating life from nothing. The child that resulted from this Force miracle, Plagueis insisted, would be the living embodiment of the Force
itself - and at that moment, Sidious knew that his Master was discussing Sidious' replacement. Soon after, Sidious killed Darth Plagueis in his
sleep. The work necessary to create a Force-conceived child continued, however. It is unclear whether Plagueis had initiated the process
before his death, or whether Sidious instead implemented his former Master's scheme for his own dark purposes. In keeping with the sith rule,
Sidious accelerated the training of his own pet project, the Zabrak child called Maul. Unknown to Plagueis, Sidious had taken the Zabrack
child from his home world of Iridonia and, in a dark reflection of the Jedi order's own raining methods, began tutoring maul in the art of
cruelty and manipulation. On Tatooine, the slave Shmi Skywalker had given birth to a child more powerful in the Force than any other in
history - the apparent product of forbidden research initiated by Darth Plagueis and taken up by Darth Sidious. This boy, Anakin Skywalker,
had seemingly not been conceived by a human father, but by the midi-chlorians themselves. Palpatine kept a close watch on Anakin as the
boy grew. If trained as a Sith apprentice, such a child could be vastly more powerful than Maul.

STAR WARS CANON
George Lucas (2001) There are two worlds here; There’s my world, which is the movies, and there’s this other world that
has been created, which I say is the parallel universe—the licensing world of the books, games and comic books.

George Lucas (Starlog magazine 337 - 2005)

The Star Wars Universe is so large and diverse. Do you ever find yourself confused by the subsidiary material that`s in
the novels, comics and other offshoots?
I don’t read that stuff. I haven’t read any of the novels. I don’t know anything about that world. That’s a different world
than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come
up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make
their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other
one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want
to go off in other directions.

George Lucas (Total Film - 2007) I’ve left pretty explicit instructions for there not to be any more features. There will
definitely be no Episodes VII-IX. That’s because there isn’t any story. I mean, I never thought of anything. And now there
have been novels about the events after Episode VI, which isn’t at all what I would have done with it. The Star Wars story
is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn’t come back to life, the Emperor doesn’t
get cloned and Luke doesn’t get married.

J.W. Rinzler (2019) George couldn’t stand Mara Jade. They went out and got some sort of person who looked like she had
stepped out of a Cosmopolitan magazine to be the model for Mara, and he just thought the whole thing was so not Star
Wars, and not his vision for Star Wars. […] And also she married Luke, and he says ‘Jedi don’t marry.’ So for him, that was
important.

SW.COM (2014) While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and
television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set
the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed
and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters
and events to which all other tales must align.

Dave Filoni (ComicBook - 2017): For me and my training here at Lucasfilm, working with George, he and I always thought
the Expanded Universe was just that. It was an expanded universe. Basically it's stories that are really fun and really
exciting, but they're a view on Star Wars, not necessarily canon to him.

That was the way it was from the day I walked into Lucasfilm with him all through Clone Wars, everything we worked on,
he felt the Clone Wars series and his movies were what was actually the reality of it all, the canon.

What George and I always used to do though is look at what was out there, and you would see characters like Ventress and
go, 'My gosh, what a great character.
GUERRAS CLÓNICAS
George Lucas: We are working on a 3-D continuation of the pilot series that was on the Cartoon Network; we
probably won't start that project for another year.

Do you consider The Clone Wars canon or part of the Expanded Universe? Is the old Cartoon Network show
canon? How do the two relate and where do the two series fit in the Star Wars Universe?‘

Dave Filoni (CBR news 2008): That’s one of the biggest debates in Star Wars, what counts? The idea of what is
canon? When I talk to George I know that he considers his movies, this series and his live-action series canon.
And yet as a fan, I bring him a lot of information that is in the Expanded Universe and say, well this was done
and this was done too. I get that information in front of him to see how he wants to use it or review it. I’ll try
to add little touches and things that I know that the fans that are well versed in the Expanded Universe will
know; what we can work in from the Expanded Universe really does gel.

But there’s never an implicit connection between the micro-series that Cartoon Network did previously and the
series that we’re doing now. I personally as a fan never think of it as discrediting any of the other material,
it’s just that other material is from a different point of view, a different look at the war and take on the war.
It’s an ever-Expanding Universe in a lot of ways.
THE CLONE WARS
After six live-action films and two seasons of The Clone Wars, is there anything we haven’t seen yet?

George Lucas (Scfinow - 2011): We’re looking at some classic characters, and introducing some new ones
based on universal archetypes. We’re going back to the roots of Star Wars. Much of Season Three is going to
explore the mythological aspects of the universe and the Force, in ways that we haven’t seen before. When
I first wrote the original Star Wars, it was rooted heavily in archetypal mythologies. It’s always been an
important part of the story, but we’re taking it further and revealing more. We’re going beyond the war effort
that we’ve seen in the first two seasons.

Dave Filoni: It’s a big universe. There’s still a lot to explore. If I told you, they wouldn’t be secrets. But I can
say that we are to learn so much more about the galaxy and the characters. We are really delving into some
important territory, uncovering some really interesting facets of the Star Wars universe. Anakin’s destiny –
and the prophecy of the Chosen One – was introduced tangentially in Episode I; it was discussed by Qui-Gon
and the Jedi Council, but we are going to explore what that means. Ultimately – and for obvious reasons – it’s
really important to Anakin’s future and the future of the galaxy.

George Lucas: The movies are just the tip of the iceberg. The galaxy is vast, and the stories are more
complex than anything we’ve seen. The movies focused on one thread of the Skywalker story, but there’s
more to the war than that. We are going to learn more about the characters – where they’re coming from and
where they’re going.

Bounty hunters played such a major role in the second season. Do you have any new villains in store for
Season Three?

Dave Filoni: Bounty hunters are an integral part of the Star Wars universe, and I know that those characters
have become favorites among the fans. You can never be sure when they’re going to come back to cause
trouble for the Jedi Knights, and that’s part of the fun. But they’re still out there somewhere – and they hold
grudges. In the meantime, we’ve got some cool villains for Season Three. Darth Maul fans are going to be
pleased by our newest villain. Things aren’t going to get any easier for the heroes; this is the third season,
and the stakes are being raised appropriately.

George Lucas: We’ve got a new character – Savage Opress. He’s like Darth Maul, only bigger and angrier.
When he’s around, you’ll forget about the bounty hunters for a while – but they’ll be back, too.
NEW MOVIES
LUCAS ON THE LIVE-ACTION SERIES

TotalFilm: How far down the line will Star Wars continue in these new incarnations?

George Lucas: Clone Wars will probably go for at least five or six seasons which adds up to 200 episodes. Then we have
the live-action series, which is going to be a little bit more experimental. It takes place over the 20 years when Luke's
growing up, but it's not about the Skywalkers or any of that stuff.

Like In Episode IV -- you hear about the Emperor, but you don't actually see him. People live in the Empire, but you don't
see Storm Troopers. It's a completely different kind of idea, which is risky. But that's the only reason I'm doing it. Some
people will inevitably say. "It's not what I think of as Star Wars." So who knows, it may work or it may not.

TotalFilm: Is it really a radical departure?

George Lucas: I'd say so. It's kind of like Episode IV -- it's funny and there's action, but it's lot more talky. It's more of what
I would call a soap opera with a bunch of personal dramas in it. It's not really based on action-adventure films from the
'30s -- it's actually more based on film noir movies from the '40's!

LUCAS ON THE EXPANDED UNIVERSE

TotalFilm: The Star Wars universe has expanded far beyond the movies. How much leeway do the game makers and novel
writers have?

George Lucas: They have their own kind of world. There's three pillars of Star Wars. I'll probably get in trouble for this but
it's OK!

There's three pillars: the father, the son and the holy ghost. I'm the father, Howard Roffman [president of Lucas Licensing]
is the son and the holy ghost is the fans, this kind of ethereal world of people coming up with all kinds of different ideas
and histories. Now these three different pillars don't always match, but the movies and TV shows are all under my control
and they are consistent with themselves.

Howard tries to be consistent but sometimes he goes off on tangents and it's hard to hold him back. He once said to me
that there are two Star Trek universes: there's the TV show and then there's all the spin-offs. He said that these were
completely different and didn't have anything to do with each other. So I said, "OK, go ahead."

In the early days I told them that they couldn't do anything about how Darth Vader was born, for obvious reasons but
otherwise I pretty much let them do whatever they wanted. They created this whole amazing universe that goes on for
millions of years!"
LEVEL POWERS
Gillard and Lucas decided upon each Jedi`s dexterity, grading it from “one” to “ten”.
* Obi-Wan is a level eight, explains Gillard.
