 It is composed of sports events such as


running, jumping, and throwing.
 ATHLETICS is also known as track and
field athletics.
RUNNING

 Running is important in sports,


recreational activities, daily life
activities, and emergencies.
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS IN RUNNING

 SPRINTS
 Sprinting makes use of three kinds of start.
 There is the bunch, the medium and the
elongated which differ due to the spacing of
the feet.

 The bunch start is executed with small


steps.
 The medium start, is characterized by
medium steps.
 Elongated start, consist of big strides
which are quite taxing.
 To be able to attain your goal,
you have to master the sprint
command used by starters.
Starter’s Command
 ON YOUR MARK!
- Stand behind the starting line.
 GET SET!
- Raise your hips a little higher than your
shoulders.
 GO!
- Breath out hard and run as fast as you
can.

 Triple Jump
 Hurdle
 All these events require strong
legs and fee, rhythm and power
to lift the body for a clear jump
to the most possible height.

THROWING

 Throwing events in athletics include shot


put, javelin, discuss and hammer throw.
 all these events claim the athlete who
can throw the farthest distance within
the boundaries prescribed.
Shot Put

 The shut put from a circle which is seven


(7) feet in diameter, the toe board four
feet long and four inches wide at the front
edge of the circle.
 The requirement of this event is to transfer
great strength using the legs, arms, and
fingers to throw the shot satisfactorily.
Shot Put

 Position the shot on the base of your


fingers and press it hard against your
neck.
 Make a back facing stance at the back of
the circle, with your weight on that leg
at the side of your throwing hand.
Shot Put

 Form a low, closed crouching position as


you lower your weight on that leg to
build the power needed for your throw.
Prepare you body to launch.
 Bring that leg downward and with full
power thrust the other leg towards the
toe board.
Shot Put

 Shift the power up through your legs,


body, and throwing arm. As you raise
your elbow, release the shot by
punching you arms diagonally upward
and flipping the wrist.

 Remember: the shot can be easily fall


away from your neck during the throw
so it is important for you to make sure it
is pressed hard against your neck until
you make the final release.
Javelin Throw

 JAVELIN – similar to a spear which is made


of wood or fiberglass with metal point or
tip.
 The side of the point is heavier than the tail
end which is thinner and lighter to allow
the fastest, farthest spearheading flight of
the javelin possible.
 To execute a good throw, there are
different styles of carrying the javelin and
steps to be followed.
