LEARNING POINT: WHAT THE K-

12 CURRICULUM IS ALL ABOUT?

 The centrepiece if the legislation “ the
enhanced basic education Act of 2013,
otherwise known as R.A 10533 is the K-
12 Curriculum. It must be noted that the
K-12 curriculum is one of the many
components, yet a very important one of
the total package of this education
reform.
The K-12 curriculum provides fro basic
education of 13 years:
KINDERGARTEN- 1 YEAR

ELEMENTARY- 6 YEARS

JUNIOR
HIGHSCHOOL- Gr. 7-10

SENIOR
HIGHSCHOOL- Gr. 11-12
 The Deped prescribed a curriculum
template to serve as a guide to all teachers
teaching in the public and private school in
the country.
 The teachers are encouraged to implement
this in the context of their given situation
considering availability of any of the
resources, materials or support systems.
 The aim of K-12 is to develop empowered
individuals who have learned, through a
program that is rooted on sound education
principles, geared towards excellence.
 On every child basic needs, it seeks to
address:
1. Learning to learn

2. Acquisition
of Basic numeracy

3. Literacy and Scientific

and technical knowledge.
 On every graduate:
1. Has the courage, drive and relevant skills
2. Able to embarked in the modern world.
3. inculcated with respect of human rights
and values.
 The goals of K-12 curriculum requires the
development of higher-thinking skills and
effective social skills so as to realize the
goals to fruition.
 COGNITION
- refers to skills required for daily
living.
 METACOGNITION
- refers to knowledge that people have
about their cognitive processes, and the
deliberate used of these cognitive
processes to improve learning.
In the research conducted, these are the
indicators used in learning competencies.

2. Explains the nature and 
process of
communication.
3. Differentiates the 
various models of
communication.
4. Distinguishes the unique 

take place in stars, which
lead to the formation of
new elements.
4. Describe how 
elements that are
heavier than Iron are
formed.
 All the above-stated expected learning
competencies are identified as
metacognitive skills because doing this
will require the used of basic cognition
skills like identifying, understanding,
recalling and similar skills.
