Conclusion

• Bacillus strain B26 produced highest chitinase activity both in solid and liquid colloidal
chitin medium.
• Based on phylogenetic tree of strain B26 showing the similarity with Bacillus cereus
strain FMI-4
• Bacillus cereus strain B26 was gram positive, motile, spore forming, showed positive
result for the urease production, catalase test, starch hydrolysis and casein hydrolysis.
• Composition 2% of squid pen powder and 1% of lactose as additional carbon source
was the best medium components for chitinase production.
