FABRICS
• The traditional fabric design is an important
type of Southeast Asian art.
It reflects the culture of
the country.
• Southeast Asian fabrics features an extensive
range of the local raw materials on which an
astonishing array of techniques like applique ,
batik, weaving, and embroidery have been
applied.
BATIK
• For the Javanese , Batik is not just a piece of cloth, it is part
of their tradition and culture.
• It comes from the word “ tik “ which means “ to dot “

WAYANG KULIT
• Refers to the traditional puppetry in Indonesia.
• This is an ancient form of storytelling flourished in the
royal courts of Java and Bali as well as the rural areas.
• WAYANG a Javanese word meaning “ Shadow “
Bahasa Indonesia, it means ” Puppet “
• KULIT a Javanese word meaning leather or skin. These
are the materials used to make the puppets.
WAYANG KULIT
• Uses elaborately designed and carefully handcrafted
puppets. Performed with musical accompaniment.
• Performances have a spiritual and magical
significance for the Javanese and Balinese people, the
souls of the ancestors were brought back to life as
shadows provide advice and support.

DIFFERENT SOUNDS
KRATHONG
• Every 12th full moon of the Lunar year, Thailand celebrates
one of its most awaited and certainly its most beautiful
festival called Loi Krathong

STONE CARVING IN CAMBODIA

by the Buddhist and Indian influences, later works

Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia.
BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
• one of the World’s largest buddhist temples and
one of the most spectacular monuments ever built.
• it is built during the Sailendra Dynasty. ( 9th century )
• the whole temple is adorned with more than
2,600 reliefs panels and over 500 uddha statues.
• First 4 galleries has 1,460 stone reliefs on the
wall, 1,212 decorative reliefs augment the path.
BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
• the first gallery of the monument has 120 relief
sculptures. It narrates the teachings of Buddha,
illustrate the events related to his past lives and
show educational stories taken from Buddhist
scriptures.
• They were carved to illustrate the text of Mahayan
Buddhism, Lalitavism or “ Life of the Buddha.”
