Literature Survey

Prof. S. Aakash Bharadwaj , Divyank Yarravarapu , Sadiparala Charan Kumar Reddy , Thirumalaraju
Prudhvi , K. S. P. Sandeep and Obulam Siva Dheeraj Reddy conducted an experiment on enhancing
healthcare using m-care box which monitors non-compliance of medication , i.e. , check whether the
patient has taken medication or not and makes sure to alert the patient. Many of the people around us
forget to take medication on time. The proposed model of smart medical box is a single board computer
based assistive device for people who suffer with short term memory loss. It is an alarm based device
that helps in reminding patients about their medication. The use of Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and
health sensing technologies make diagnosis easier and convenient for the doctors as well as the patients
This research presents an overview of an assistive device for monitoring non-compliance of
medication by providing a single platform and a closed loop connection between patients, doctors, and
pharmacies. This work gives insight into mechanical design, system architecture and design of android
application, information security and integrating the physical system to cloud. The architecture used is a
secure one as it uses end-to-end encryption for sending sensor data. This device helps in maintaining
one-time medication to the patients, and helps increasing the life expectancy.
Prof. Walairach Nunsong and Kuntpong Woraratpanya conducted an experiment on the modified

differential box-counting method using weighted triangle-box partition. Differential box-counting (DBC) is
one of the commonly used methods to estimate fractal dimension (FD) for gray scale images. It has been
successfully applied in many applications such as image segmentation, pattern recognition, texture analysis

and medical signal analysis. However, the accuracy improvement of FD estimation is still a grand challenge.
This paper proposes a modified differential box-counting method using weighted triangle-box partition
(MDBC) to reduce the estimation error caused by an undercounting problem. The proposed method is

derived from two assumptions: (i) increasing the precision of box-counts by using unequally triangle box
partition, and (ii) weighting the box-counts in proportion to the size of triangle-box partition.
Based on these assumptions, on each grid a square box is divided into four asymmetric triangle -box
patterns. Each pattern is calculated the box-counts by a weighted box-counting technique. The maximum
number of box-counts represents the better estimation. In this way, the experimental results show that

MDBC outperforms the baseline methods in terms of fitting error. Furthermore, the proposed method
applies to finger-knuckle-print recognition in order to test its efficiency. The results illustrate that it
significantly enhances the recognition rate when compared with the conventional differential box -counting
(DBC) and improved triangle box-counting in combination with DBC (ITBC-DBC) methods.
OBJECTIVE
The main objective of our proposed system is to create a user friendly design that the patients can
use as a reminder alert to take their daily medication on time. This research includes designing of a
healthcare system that, through the use of IoT-enabled sensors and relevant hardware, assists
individuals in taking their prescribed medicines on time avoiding future consequences. It is designed
to help the elderly people who often forget to take their medications or take the wrong pills or dosage.
It also helps people who used to travel frequently and are supposed to take regular medication.
Through this study we intend to maintain a profile of a patient undertaking medication on Internet
of things online and mobile messages and check if the medication is taken on time or not, and check
whether medicine box contains required quantities of particular medicine or not and alert the patient
supervisor.
The focus of this project is to achieve the below mentioned objectives.
• Alerting the patients at the correct times about the correct medicine dosage in the prescriptions.
• Sending proper messages to the caretaker/doctor regarding the intake and availability of medicines.
• History of medication usages of a patient is very important. Hence the medicine consumption details
are uploaded to the cloud platform for further medical reference profile.
SCOPE

By the help of this project we can maintain the and check the health of a patient by proving him with proper
medication at the correct times by alerting him. We can also check the medicine consumption record of the patient
using our mobile phone app or online through cloud platform. We can also keep track of the quantity of medicine
consumed and check for when the medicine box has to be refilled the particular medicine. It can ensure that the

medicine in the Medicine Box has been consumed in the proper time intervals as stated by the doctor. This can
ensure proper care of patients staying at home or hospital beds by maintaining the required surveillance of the
Medicine Box through the use of Internet of Things. We do not require an attendant to be near the patient 24 hours
a day.
METHODOLOGY

The following are the procedural steps that were carried out in order to successfully
execute the project:
In our system, ultrasonic sensor is used to indicate the level of medicine in
IMBox. There are three levels high, medium and low and when the ultrasonic sensor
detects a level then the LCD shows the level and automatically a status will be uploaded to
the IOT, and also a generate an alert SMS using GSM Module to the patient or care taker.
IR sensor is used to detect the number of times the box opened and medicine taken at the
same time status will be uploaded to the IOT with date and time.
There is a load cell too which is useful in calculating the weight of the medicine and can
be useful if a person opens the box and does not take the medicine.
Finally a SOS system is implemented to remind the patient to take their medicine on time.

PROJECT DESIGN

Our project is explained in the following diagram:

SCHEDULE,TASKS AND MILESTONE
The project was divided into multiple tasks and milestones that were achieved during the duration of 5 months as
mentioned below.
• Survey for topic selection

Different research papers and studies were done by the members of our group in order to reach to the conclusion of
selecting this topic as our final year project.
• Study on the benefits of the project
The study was done to analyse that how many people forget to take their medicine in time either due to some work or
due to the unavailability of medicines and the benefits which this device can provide to these people.

• Literature Survey
After the selection of the topic every related research on the field of GSM and IOT Used in Medical Field were studied .
• Selecting the components and designing the code
Different components were selected which was used in the project such as the gsm module, choosing the IoT server, IR
sensor, Arduino, Load cell, ultrasonic sensor, LCD and the code was designed to embed in the Arduino.
• Implementation of the code and assembling the components
The code was implemented and tested and the components were connected in a sequential manner.

• Working and testing

Each component working was tested individually and then the whole working of the project was tested regularly.
• Final presentation work
All work required for the final review was be carried out such as PowerPoint preparation and report compilation.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The project was successfully designed and implemented. The required results were obtained and matches
expectations .this device will create a user- friendly design that the patients can use as a reminder alert to take their daily
medication on time and even help them to order their medicines on time and the care taker/doctor can take better care of
the patient.

As a future enhancement to the IMBox, health monitoring sensors can also be added to the system.

The IMBox as clarified before comprise of a hardware with different segments. Every one of these parts are tried and
checked independently. As we switch the box on and set the timer, the buzzer beeps to remind the patient to take their
medicines. Whenever the box is opened a sms is sent to the given number that the medicine is been taken by the patient
with the level of medicines left in the box.

This information is also uploaded in the cloud so that the doctor /caretaker can be notified from anywhere.

Along with the level of medicines the weight of the medicines left in the box will also be updated so that in case if the
box is opened and a person does not take the medicine the doctor will know that he/she has not taken the medicine as the
weight of the medicine will not change.

The project was successfully designed and implemented. The required results were obtained and matches
expectations .this device will create a user- friendly design that the patients can use as a reminder alert to take their daily
medication on time and even help them to order their medicines on time and the care taker/doctor can take better care of
the patient.
SCOPE FOR FUTURE WORK

As a future enhancement to the IMBox, health monitoring sensors can also be added
to the system.

Prediction of storage conditions included in the system makes the box more
intelligent and also to consider the placement of multiple compartments inside the box
to satisfy the requirement of different users in a home environment. Privacy and
reliability measures should also be taken care. A suitable cooling system with less
battery rating can make the system more compact and cost effective.
