] Ä singular noun names just one person, place or thing. Ä
plural noun tells you that there are two or more of the same
thing. Proper and abstract nouns do not have plurals.

The rules for pluralizing common nouns are as follows:

1. Most word in English can be made plural simply by

adding µs¶ to the end.

added to the end of a word.
Example: 1 dressM ° dresses
1 batchM ° batches
ï. If a noun ends in a consonant followed by the letter µyµ, you
must change the µy¶ to an µi¶ and add µes¶.
Example: 1 storyM° stories
¢. If a noun ends with the letter µf¶ you should change the µf¶ to a
µv¶ and then add µes¶ to the end.

w. Some nouns in English remain exactly the same whether
they are singular or plural.

§. A few nouns change there spelling completely depending on
whether they are singular or plural. The more you read the
more you start to remember.
Example:1 foot M° feet
1 mouse M° mice
› llective n ni Some nouns can be singular even though
they refer to more than one person or thing.

Example: Ä group of people, Ä committee of engineers etc.

if we make a collective noun plural we are indicating different

collection of people.

etc.
