Conduct a research to identify a brand/product/service that


satisfies any one or more of the above aspects

IDENTIFY OPERATIONS PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES AND
UNDERSTAND THEIR RELATIVE IMPORTANCE

1. Know the intended market positioning and business


strategy of the brand in current (or) future markets
(extract from company reports, cases, news, articles, etc.)
2. Identify the PLC stage of the product/service
3. Determine market requirements (or) competitive
dimensions for identified product/service
4. Categorize competitive dimensions into Order Qualifiers
and Order Winners
5. Determine operations performance objectives (Quality,
Cost, Speed, Dependability and Flexibility). Analyze their
relative importance. Create a polar diagram.
Conduct a market research for points 2 & 3.

ASSESS THE CURRENT OPERATIONS STRATEGY

1. Determine current operations strategy for the product/service


(Apply Terry Hill’s Strategy Development Framework)

2. Assess sufficiency & success rate of current ops strategy


a) Identify Market Requirements and Operations Capabilities
b) Verify ‘Line of Fit’ for current Ops Strategy (Draw the ‘Line of Fit’
diagram)
c) Assess gap between current market requirements and
operations capabilities
d) Apply Platt's-Gregory Procedure to know where to focus
e) Apply Importance-Performance Matrix to know where to
improve
f) Analyze from the above
g) Report capability deficiencies and performance areas for focus
and improvement

Formulate a feasible & effective Operations strategy


Apply ‘Operations Strategy Matrix’

Plan for developing the new operational capabilities
