Idea

• Our idea is a horror film based in the 21st century. We have

5 main characters, 4 of the characters are all good friends
and the other being a protagonist.
• The main idea of our short film revolves around 4 main characters
who all good friends and are exploring an abandoned house
where there was a recent murder.
• The 4 main characters all explore the abandoned house in a remote
location .
• The friends find themselves stalked by a brutal killer. As they're
slashed, shot and stabbed, they struggle to stay alive against a
merciless opponent.
• Location of the short film will be largely set in a dark room
because it fits with the conventions of the horror genre as it
creates a creepy mood and atmosphere for the audience.
Inspirations
For our short film we sat down and watched through some horror
films. We looked at some really popular films such as; The Shining, The
Exorcist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. However the film that we
have taken the most inspiration from is Friday the 13th (Original,
Sequel). Like Friday the 13th we also have an Antagonist in a old,
abandoned house. During these films, we took notes on what we
could consider for our video. We found that the lighting that was used
was low key during violent scenes and that the setting was usually
somewhere run down such as a hospital or an abandoned house. The
shots that we used to show Jason were from a low angle shot this
showed vulnerability towards the characters but made the antagonist
look powerful and a lot taller than normal. This shot was used
throughout both films, along with close ups of the characters facial
expressions that usually showed fright. This makes the viewer feel
uncomfortable and want the characters to feel safe.
Reasoning why this is new on the
Market
Compared to most horror films ours is different because of our use of
technology. Modern Horror movies often try to incorporate technology.
They're often based around cell phones, computers, home video, and other
present-day conveniences. In our film we have tried to limit the amount of
technology that affects the plot of our film.

Another stereotypical thing for horror films is that women are the most
frequent targets in horror movies. They're constantly in grave danger. In our
film our female characters are strong, independent and are a countertype for
this genre.

ours will be different due to the use of the POV shot throughout of the film.
This will allow the audience to see exactly what the actors are seeing first
hand. Another reason in which it will, be different to other horror films as the
characters split up and have to experiences by themselves and with the
villain. What this shows is two stories in one. For the viewer, it is showing
perspectives from each of the characters telling a similar story but from
different character backgrounds.
Unions that we have considered…
BBFC - Age rating would be 15 years and over because
our short film will have some elements of violence but
not strong brutal violence also they may be strong
language and weapons such as knives might be also
shown. We need to be careful in what we put into our
film to ensure that it meets the ratings allowed. However
from reviewing films such as the Saw Series, we will not
use anywhere near the gore that is use in them films. The
only issue that we may have is the setting of the film
being protected through copyrights or using music and
sound effects that are copyrighted. To ensure this doesn’t
happen, we will use clips off of YouTube that are free and
accessible for premier pro.
Crew roles
Director: Sam Watling. The director is in charge of everything he
decides what music is chosen and where the camera is placed etc.
Producer: Zak White. The producer is someone who makes sure that
everyone is in there right places and they're in charge of the paper
work.
Cinematographer : Sam Watling. A cinematographer is the director of
the camera and light crews working on a film and is responsible for
making artistic and technical decisions related to the image.
Editor: Zak White: The film editor works with the raw footage,
selecting shots and combines them into sequences which create a
finished motion picture.
Camera Operator: Sam Watling: A camera operator, sometimes
informally called a cameraman, is a professional operator of a film or
video camera.
Permission for filming
For our video we will be filming in a member of the groups
house. For this reason, it will be easily accessible to get
permission to film there. The other location that we will be
filming is the road that the house sits on. What this means for
the location scout is that they may have to ask for permission
from local authority. Also we will be asking people around the
area to see if we are allowed to film in front of their houses
due to the fact that a small minority maybe seen through the
short running clips near the end of the film
“Before filming on a public road you must contact the local
police and the Highways Department of the local authority.
Both will need to make sure that your plans are safe and pose
no threat to road users.”- British film commission

Personal details
• Contact number: 07426 748457
07570 416961
07596 178511
These are the contact numbers that can be used if needed in an emergency.
The reason in which we have used our numbers as our number one priority as
everyone including the school can access us quickly and efficiently by using
our mobile devices. Also the use of the mobile device will allow use to call
emergency services from anywhere if needed with or without signal.

• Address: Burnt Ash Lane, Bromley, BR1 5AJ.

This is the address that we will be filming the majority of our footage. The
reason why we are filming at this location as it fits our specification and is
closest to the nearest hospital which is Farnborough hospital. This will be our
first choice of hospital if needed as they have an A and E facility as well.
Lighting
• For our film, we will be using low key lighting throughout the video.
The reasoning for this is that our genre is horror. Another reason
why we are using low key lighting in certain areas is to create
suspense to make the viewer want to watch on.
• What this means is that we will not need to invest in extra lighting,
and are able to film at anytime. However, to create the mood
lighting effect we will be using a torch.
• We will be filming in March and April around 6pm this means that
the weather shouldn’t be damp but may still but dark. This will
mean that we need to film the outside scenes first so that they
aren’t grainy. However we want it to get dark so that the setting
seems scarier. This will enhance the projecting of the POV shots as
the characters can’t see far in front of them.
Pre production
• These two sheets are explaining the different crew
roles that have been allocated. The other sheet is the
paper edit sheet which helps the crew members
know what to do throughout the process.
The paper edit sheet is showing what The crew roles will be the first
happens in every shot. Its split into four piece used for production and
different categories which are time, image may be used jut before production
description, sound and spare notes. These so that everyone knows what they
will be used during production to help the are doing and what there role
filming crews identify what needs doing endures. This helps during the
and the order that it needs to be done in. production process as everyone
will know what their
responsibilities are.

the sheets will be used during the

filming process. The paper edit
sheets will be needed for the
director to help direct the film.
also this will be used during the
editing process as the sound
column can be used to help put
sound effects and transitions in.
The location recce is used
for identifying the setting
for each scene. It shows
the risks that may come
with the location and how
to prevent it. Also it shows
information about the
location, for example
where about it is and why
that location. It will be
used during the
production process to
show how to find the
location and how far the
nearest service station and
hospital is near by.
The production schedule shows each day and what will happen on that day. This will be used
with the paper call sheets to identify what days are left and what has happened already. This
sheet can be used to plan what's still needed to do for the production of the film, this could be
useful to identify the essential scenes that need filming. Also it allows for people to get on with
other jobs such as start editing if they aren’t doing anything else in the time when the rest of
the group is still filming. This will help us finish the production of the film and pre-production on
time for the viewing and assessing of the client.
The equipment list is an essential part of the
pre production as it shows what we need for
the production of our film. due to use being in
the media department we are fortunate
enough to be able to use the majority of the
facilities available to us, this includes cameras,
tripods and different lighting. However other
parts we will need to purchase ourselves such
as costume, props and travel. The equipment
list will need to be taken with us everywhere
and checked before each journey to ensure
that we have everything that’s needed for
filming. We have also included what will be
needed after production which is the editing
program. The editing program that we will be
using is Premier Pro as its accessible on all
Macs around the school. The equipment list
description clearly shows how to use the piece
of equipment and the use for it.
The equipment will be highlighted in different areas of the pre production but if needed to
know more information about the equipment will be stated in the document above. The
pictures help identify which pieces of equipment match which name. this will be useful when
using several different SD cards and USBs.
