Solar Power Potential in Rajasthan

 Best solar Irradiance in India

 Solar Irradiance (6.0–7.0 kWh/sq.m/day)
 Maximum number of Sunny days (>325)
 Abundant & Low cost land availability
 Immense solar energy potential
 Rajasthan has around 208,110 Sq.km of
desert land (60% of total area)
 Land required for 100,000 MW- 60 km x
60 km
= 3600 sq.km (i.e. <2% of desert land)

Total desert area –

208,110 sq.kms

15,000 sq. kms can produce

300,000 MW
DNI: 2200 kWh/sq.m/yr
Yearly Average
DNI: 5.78 kWh/sq.m/day
8

Solar Power Potential in Rajasthan(cont.)

 Thar desert of Rajasthan is similar to

desert States of California, Nevada,
Colorado and Arizona in terms of
availability of land resources and solar
Insolation.
 Vast potential of development of solar
energy in desert region of Rajasthan.
 Solar generation in Rajasthan would not
only fulfill the energy needs of the State
but also generate huge amount of
employment in the desert area.
