on the Champs de Mars beside the River Seine.
 It is the tallest structure in Paris and one of the most recognized
monuments in the world.
 Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, it is the most visited
monument in the world

high (since 2000)
THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE
 The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris that stands in the centre
of the Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly the Place de l’Etoile, at the
western end of the Champs Elysée.
 The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin, 1806; its iconographic
program pitted heroic French youths against bearded Germanic
warriors and set the tone for public monuments with triumphant
nationalistic messages until World War I.
LOUVRE MUSEUM
 The Louvre Museum is the most visited and one of the oldest, largest,
and most famous art galleries and museums in the world.
 The Louvre has a long history of artistic and historic conservation. The
building was previously a royal palace, and it is famous for holding
several of the world's most prestigious works of art, such as Leonardo
da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, Madonna of
the Rocks, and Alexandros of Antioch's Venus de Milo.
NOTRE DAME
 Notre Dame de Paris, often known simply as Notre Dame (‘Our Lady’),
is a Gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in Paris,
with its main entrance to the west. It is still used as a Roman Catholic
cathedral and it is the seat of the Archbishop of Paris. Notre Dame de
Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic
architecture. It was restored and saved from destruction by Viollet-le-
Duc, one of France's most famous architects.
CHAMPS DE MARS
 The Champs de Mars (‘Field of Mars’) is a large public green-space in
Paris, located in the 7th distric, between the Eiffel Tower (to the
northwest) and the Military School (to the southeast).
 The park is named from Mars the Roman god of war because it was
originally used for military training.
