• You can explain what is meant with the concepts ‘allochtoon’ and

Definitions ‘Allochtoon’
• “If a person has at least one of his/her parents who was born in
another country”(Getting to know Dutch society, page 159)
(Is Dutch East Indies considered abroad? And
Surinam before 1975?)

An older definition of ‘allochtoon’:


• If some or at least one of his/her parents is born abroad, or one of
his/her grandparents and he/she feels acquainted with that country
(Wetenschappelijke Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid, 1989
