DIRECTIONAL VALVES (CONTINUED)

Directional valves receive signals from a control device and direct power to the
actuators. They may also provide an exhaust function while at rest. Function of the
valves must be matched to the purpose of the actuator and the job to be performed.

DIRECTIONAL VALVES (CONTINUED)

The 5/2 Directional Valve provides power to the actuator and an exhaust function as it alternates
between positions. Flow ratings for the directional valve must be chosen to accommodate the
size and desired speed of the actuator.
Here, use source port of 5/2 valve as exhaust ports.
This method use to save compressed air.

Two advantages of using an air spring instead of a mechanical spring in a
cylinder are:

(1) a shorter overall cylinder length

(2) the air spring has a constant tension throughout the entire stroke.

(3) An air spring circuit also saves in air consumption over a standard double
acting circuit.

a sequence valve,
a time delay circuit,
or event-based sequencing. 35
