CDMA Modem Activation Process
 The modem ESN (Electronic Serial
Modem
Number) identifies the account Manufacturer
Carrier Specific
provisioning on modem
 Modem manufacturer provisions the
modem for a carrier. Provisioning involves:
Re-flashing firmware for a specific carrier Cisco Incorporate in the
Loading of PRI/PRL information into a Manufacturing correct HWIC SKU
modem
Generation of a “flat file” which provides key
information for carriers to enable data
Wireless Account/Service
connectivity
Services provisioning
 Cisco manufacturing integrates the modem Center
on the HWIC
 The account is created and provisioned on
VARs/End Modem Activation
the carrier network by Wireless Services Customer over the Air
Center (WSC)
 End user or the VAR activates the
modem/account over the air using IOS CLI

Check for Signal/Service Availability

Check RSSI :
show cellular x/x/x radio <history>
For a reliable connection RSSI should be > -90dBm. An
RSSI value of -125dBm means no signal.
The history option can be used to monitor network
status over a period of time.

Viewing the network and service status:

show cellular 0/0/0 network
If RSSI for WCDMA is less than -100dBm, modem
automatically falls back to EDGE.
