SLEEP PARALYSIS
What is it?

Sleep paralysis is a
temporary condition where
when youre waking up or
sometimes when youre
falling asleep that causes
you to be paralyzed.
Sleep paralysis can also be
a symptom of Narcolepsy
or Sleep apnea.
In which age groups does it
occur?
Sleep paralysis tends
to occur more often in
teens and adults, but
affects all ages. Men
and women both have
the chance of having
sleep paralysis.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a disorder
where you have a pause in
breath in your sleep. The
pause can last for a few
seconds to a few minutes.
You usually start
breathing again with a
loud snort or choke. Sleep
Apnea makes you
frequently switch from
deep to light sleep. This
makes you tired during
the day which may lead to
sleep paralysis.
Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy is a rare
disorder where youre
brain is not
Neurotypical and you
fall asleep at
inappropriate times.
The brain cannot
regulate your sleep and
waking patterns
normally. Basically
your circadian rhythm,
your biological clock is
messed up.
How long does it last?

are basically turned

Hypnagogic Sleep Paralysis

What happens during

Hypnagogic sleep
paralysis is that when
you start falling asleep,
you dont notice how
you body starts to
relax. But sometimes
when you remain
aware, you become
very cannot move or
speak.
Night Terrors
Night Terrors occur when you
are mentally aware you are
paralyzed and this causes an
episode that has hallucinations
and the sensation of
breathlessness. That is why
some people see hooded
figures or incubus or succubus,
demons, which are creatures
that pin you down in your sleep
(and usually have sex with you).
Some people sense a presence
nearby and believe they will die.
Most people who had a
supernatural belief felt more
threatened.
Who Can Develop Sleep
Paralysis?
People with:
Lack of sleep
Wacked out sleep
schedule
Mental illness such as
bipolar disorder or stress
Sleeping on your back
Narcolepsy, Sleep apnea
Medications, like some for
ADHD (Attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder )
Substance abuse
How is it treated?

Usually it is treated by treating other big

problems, think comorbidity. But in general,
improving your sleeping habits, and treating
any mental health problems that contribute
to sleep paralysis will get rid of it.
