RULE OF THIRDS

The theory is that if you place points of

interest in the intersections or along the
lines that your photo becomes more
balanced and will enable a viewer of the
image to interact with it more naturally.

Studies have shown that when viewing

images that peoples eyes usually go to one
of the intersection points most naturally
rather than the center of the shot using
the rule of thirds works with this natural
way of viewing an image rather than
working against it.

Cutaway
TRANSITIONS
T YPES OF CUTAWAYS

To be honest, the cutaway is perhaps the only way to do a

good transition in the middle of a video. That is jumping from
one piece of footage to the next with no real transition
needed. Other types of transitions end up being hokey.
L Cut: The audio from the previous scene keeps going after the
camera has cut to the next scene.
J Cut: The audio from the next scene starts before the film cuts away.
