Major Obstacles

Meeting variety of standards and regulation (3 governments and one major

trade route)

During the project, the team faced frequent typhoons, crisscross navigation,
airport height restrictions, high environmental standards and extreme tight
schedule

Critics claim the project is harmful to wildlife and the environment

Solution

Obstacles have been over come through close collaboration and through
planning

In 2010, the 3 governments established an Joint work committee and HZMB

Authority to handle decision making and implementation.

This helped in not only to being on time and budget but also shared benefits
in the form of economic growth and diversification across the region.

The government responded to the environmental critics by saying that it has

imposed strict environmental regulations
