STAKEHOLDERS OF MOTILAL OSWAL -Siddhant Kothari ABOUT THE COMPANY
Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd.(MOSL) was founded in 1987 as a
small sub-broking unit. Today MOSL is a well diversified financial services company that has an outreach in Private wealth Management, Retail broking and distribution, Institutional broking, Asset management, Investment banking, Private equity, commodity broking, currency broking and Home finance. Headquartered in Mumbai, MOSL is spread in more than 600 cities in India with a diverse client base of over 850,00 registered customers which range from foreign institutional investors, HNIs, mutual funds and corporate clients. MY ROLE
During my month long internship in the wealth management
department, I learnt about estate planning, SIPs (systematic Investment Plans), the stock market, funds and securities. I learnt about the 4 different asset classes that exist and to create a diversified portfolio by investing a fixed percentage in each of these asset classes. I did further research into the different types of funds, and evaluated a the ideal funds the HNIs should invest in. I also further researched into the securities market and learnt about all the different types of bonds and evaluated the pros and cons of the bonds. OBSTACLES
During my internship what I noticed was that clients at times
could have a lack of knowledge about the different types of investment opportunities. Knowledge is vital in this industry as one cannot base their investment decisions simply on trust. The finance industry in India is getting more and more competitive. MOSL faces competition from small lenders and private equity firms. POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS
To provide clients with vital investment knowledge, I believe
that MOSL could launch a guide to investment handbook which will provide investors with knowledge on the different investment opportunities. This investment handbook could bridge this gap and create a more complete investment experience. To face competition, I believe that MOSL should continue to maintain close and strong ties with its customers. Good customer relations could help them get an edge over their competitors. I also feel MOSL should continue to diversify into different financial avenues to build a truly diversified group.
