 Map Relief
A lot of maps dont show changes in the
height and depth of land features, also
known as elevation.
Maps that show elevation are known as
relief maps.
These can show us the three-dimensional
surface of the earth.

Why do we hear a lot about elevation,
particularly here in Colorado?
 Mountain Fever!
Colorado 14ers are awesome.
There are 58 mountain peaks that have a
summit at least 14,000 feet above sea level.

 Contour Line
A contour line shows all points on the
map that have the same elevation.

 Relief Maps
A relief map shows us 3 dimensions of an
area:
Distances from point A to point B
Directions north, south, east and west
Shapes and areas ridgelines, valleys, etc.
