A. AN ACTIVITY
INTEGRATED IN A LESSON
Acting out dialogues from textbooks;

Role plays on different communicative situations: At

the restaurant, Doing shopping, etc;

Games :Miming different actions for the other

students to guess- e.g. to wash oneself, to eat, to wait for someone;

Give VOICE to inanimate objects, etc.

B. PERFORMING PLAYS
A separated activity after classes.

The English teacher must make his students interested in

participating in this activity .

Students must be highly motivated throughout the preparation of

the play until and after the performance.

It requires a lot of time and dedication from the part of the sudents
and the teacher(s), also.
STEPS IN MAKING AN
ENGLIS H THEATRE CLUB :

1. Accepting the
challenge.

2. Organising a Preselection
CRITERIA IN
PRESELECTION
REALTIVELY GOOD PRONOUNCIATION IN

ENGLISH-The students had to read aloud an English text seen for

the first time

INTONATION- They had to recite a Romanian poem

learnt by heart.

Result: 9 little actors

PREPARING THE PLAY:

1. Choose the play according to the students age,

level of English, preference, time of the year. A
Christmas Tale . Even challenge students to write
their own play : The Test by Cosmin Baicu 7th A
grade
NOT TO FORGET TO:

Give each student a role suitable to each ones style,

preference, etc.

Establish rehearsals- after classes ( 1 hour a week)

Make them read aloud their roles, learn new words with
their correct pronounciation

Determine students to learn by heart their roles! ( difficult!)

AT REHEARSAL

Work on small parts of the play!

Insist on intonation, mimics and gestures

and movement on stage!

Be patient when they have fun instead of actually

rehearsing
PERFORMING ON STAGE!

It has two parts:

The actual PERFORMANCE of the PLAY in face of the

audience.

The recording of the theatrical performance.

The feed-back from the actors and audience.

Possibility of students losing motivation during the

first reading aloud of the text.

Lack of costumes, furniture, etc.

Inherent delays of rehearsals, etc.

Emotions in front of the audience- some students

may be embarrassed.
CONCLUSIONS
Using drama in English class is a motivating and
difficult .

It requires dedication from the part of the teacher and

the students, as well

A memorable experience!

It should be definitely used in our classes!
