Technology In The

Classroom

By: Katelyn Horvath

Purpose
The purpose of this presentation is to talk
about the role technology plays in the
classroom.
Agenda
My three key points are:

1. Pros and Cons

2. Usage

3. Technology Used
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Can communicate with
kids on the other side of
the world (Pen Pals)

Research information
about a topic learned in
class

Watch videos on certain

topics
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Many resources to make
learning more fun and
effective

Can learn life skills such as

making a presentation and
writing emails

Allow students to learn at

their own pace
Pros and Cons
Cons:
Can be used for games
(Easily switch to a different
screen)

Shortens attention spans

Limiting human interaction

Pros and Cons
Cons:
Less creativity and critical
thinking

Less active

Can become addicted

eventually

Can be distracting
Usage
Who and How Much:
Technology is depended on and
used way too much.

When we were all like three

years old we did not have
IPhones and IPads to play on.
Instead our parents took us
outside to the park.
Usage
How Much:

Today most little kids have

IPhones or IPads that their
parents give to them to make
them be quiet or to distract them
for a while.

About every 9 in 10 children

have a mobile device. (16 and
under)
Technology Used
Laptops preferred
over mobile:
Nearly one third of high
schoolers say they like to
use their laptops for work in
class.

Only 20% of high schoolers

use their mobile device for
school work.
Technology Used
What teachers
prefer:

Smart Boards and projectors

are more commonly used in
the classroom by teachers.
(36%).

Microsoft Office is used the

most by both teachers and
students.
Technology Used
Real books:

78% of
students prefer
the page over
the screen.
Technology Used
Cheating:

29% believe that cheating

has moderately increased
because of tech devices
with only 10% saying its
increased significantly.
Conclusion
What I found was that most people in general have
some sort of electronic devices. These days
schools encourage children and teens to bring their
devices to class. It is good to have them because it
will enhance learning. However, they can also be
very distracting and could be used to go off topic to
play games.
