Journey into the Future

By Mohan Chowdhury
Artist Statement (210
Words)
My practice has been driven by the continuous development of virtual reality technologies. The process
of my work often presents elements of trial and error, through the development of scenes and the
creation of auditory sounds. The production of my work has been influenced by a mixture of modern and
traditional cinematic techniques in combination with new technology inventions to formulate an
immersive film experience. These VR experiences are viewable through both enhanced VR head
mounted displays as well as Googles demo release of the Cardboard.

The use of modernised VR technologies like Samsungs 360 Camera has allowed me to shoot 360
panoramic videos. I stitch the footage together using professional stitching software like Action
Director which is then uploaded on to the popular media sharing site, YouTube. The handiness of
professional softwares like Adobe Premiere Pro and FL Studio have helped me make intricate edits to
my video clips as well as producing compelling sounds in connection to my visual concepts.

The sole purpose of my work is to provoke a reaction from the viewer but at the same time provide a
visually pleasing experience. Ive adopted various techniques and ideas from a range of films such as;
Hideo Nakatas Ring and Alfred Hitchcocks Psycho which have had a great influence to my practice.
