Video Broadcast Technology

Numerous technologies support the digital broadcast

network
Important aspects of the network to understand are:
- Digital Video
- Broadcast spectrum
- MPEG
- QAM

1-14

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February 09

Digital Video

For digital video delivery, the video and audio inputs are
compressed into a digital stream.

Based on size and content of the individual programs,

multiple digital streams can be combined onto a single 6-8
MHz channel.

Between four and ten programs, depending on the content,

can fit onto a given channel.

Programs with lots of movement, such as sports programs,

require much more bandwidth than still programs like a
news program.

1-15

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February 09

Broadcast Spectrum Usage

constant bit rate

Basic analog video signal
consumes the full 6MHz/8MHz

3.75 Mb/s
channel
Average individual standard
definition program is 3.75 Mb/s
Entire 6MHz/8MHz channel offers
approximately 38 Mb/s - 50 Mb/s
respectively
Digital video signal allows greater

6 MHz
6 MHz

6 MHz

6 MHz
use of the QAM channel

Up to 38 Mb/s

1-16

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February 09

Digital Video Delivery

Streams can be a constant bit rate (CBR) or variable bit

rate (VBR)

Bandwidth allocation for a CBR stream is predictable

and generally can be delivered in the 6MHz channel

Due to its nature, the VBR stream is unpredictable and

bursty as statistical multiplexers combine multiple
programs based on bandwidth needs

What is QAM ?

Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM)

a system of modulation in which data is
transferred by modulating the amplitude
of two separate carrier waves which are
out of phase by 90 degrees. Carrier 1

- Doubles the effective bandwidth

- Fits in a standard 6 or 8 MHz channel Carrier 2

- 64QAM and 256QAM channels

supported
QAM signals cannot be received by most
traditional TVs

Digital Streams and QAM Channels
Individual
A/V Streams
e.g. HBO, CNN, VOD#1

At the source, programs

are compressed for
transmission.

A QAM modulator modulates

the streams into QAM signals
and sends the signals
Multiplexer downstream via RF ports.

At the destination, the

program date is extracted and QAM Modulator
then combined again into the
original programming content.

D5 UEQ Overview

The D5 Universal Edge QAM (QAM) is an MPEG-2

transport and digital video over-cable system.

The D5 UEQ enables cable operators and multiple system

operators (MSOs) to provide advanced audio and video
multimedia services over converged MPEG-2 transport
and IP networks to both residential and business
subscribers.

1-27

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February 09

D5 UEQ Service Applications

Video on Demand (VOD) QAM/RF resources are allocated during

defined period of time (ie. movies-on-demand)

Digital Broadcast sufficient QAM/RF resources must be allocated

for all channels, all of the time

Switched Digital Video (SDV) still provides subscribers access to

the entire programming schedule but only uses QAM/RF resources
for programs actively being viewed. Programs not being watched
do not tie up bandwidth

Modular-Cable Modem Termination System (M-CMTS) is a

reference edge architecture that separates the downstream
physical layer processing from the rest of the CMTS and places it
into the EdgeQAM with similar video processing

Question Mark Usage

The ? key performs three functions:

- When added to the end of a partially-typed command,
the ? lists keywords that start with the current fragment.
- When separated from the command by one or more
spaces, ? lists valid keywords that can follow the current
keyword.
- When entered after the prompt, the ? lists all of the
available command verbs.

Tab Key Usage

Use the Tab key completes a partially-typed command

or keyword.
- Example:
D5# con<Tab>
D5# configure

The Tab cannot be used to complete a keyword unless

the partial keyword is unique.
- For example, entering co<Tab> could have two possible
results, configure or copy.

CLI Command History

The D5 UEQ maintains a history of CLI commands entered

during a session.
- The up arrow retrieves back in the command history.
- The down arrow retrieves forward in the command history.
If the command history contained the following commands:
interface qam 6/1
video annex a
video power 450
video frequency 57000000
- Pressing the up arrow three times retrieves video annex a.
- Pressing the down arrow once retrieves video power 450.

2-80

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Pipe Feature

The D5 UEQ supports the use of the pipe (|) as a trailer to

some commands.
A string following a pipe can be used to include or exclude
matches to the output generated by the command.
- Keywords are:
begin starts with first line containing the string
include matches only lines which contain the string
exclude excludes all lines which contain the string
Especially useful when trying to isolate specific text within a
verbose command result.

Video on Demand (VOD) is based on real-time video streaming

or on an advanced request for the desired viewing time.
A session is established between a central server at the head-
end and the D5 UEQ for processing the request.
The D5 UEQ extracts MPEG Single Program Transport Streams
(SPTSs) and outputs them to the desired program number on
the desired RF frequencies for delivery to the STB.

UDP Port Management

The D5 UEQ delivers MPEG-2 transport streams over UDP

port assignments by utilizing UDP port mapping schemes.

UDP input streams are mapped to programs on a QAM

channel using mapping rules.

A UDP port has an assigned QAM channel and program

number.

A UDP port number identifies a QAM channel on which to

transmit the video stream and the program number to use
when transmitting.

UDP Port Mapping Options

Three port mapping options:

- Default port mapping mapping to the QAM module is
determined by the UDP port number
- Defacto Industry Standard port mapping mapping is
determined by the destination IP address
- Static port mapping manually assigning a port to a
program number or overriding assigned port mapping

Default UDP Port Mapping
Legacy default UDP port mapping supports a mixture of 2x4 or 2x6
QAM modules with 127 UDP ports per QAM channel.
The new default UDP port mapping supports a mixture of 2x4 and
2x6 cards with 63 UDP ports per QAM channel.
System upgrades from older software versions will default to the
legacy scheme.
New installations will default to the new default UDP port mapping
scheme.
UDP ports are assigned based on the:
- Slot in which the QAM module resides
- RF port
- QAM channel index within the RF port
Note: The legacy scheme can be turned on/off globally, but not on a
per-QAM basis because it would create overlapping port ranges
resulting in ambiguous UDP- QAM mappings.

Multicast Overview, cont.

Multicast is bandwidth efficient rather than broadcast

to everyone or use high bandwidth to send multiple
unicast transport stream.
Allows end points to join or leave multicast groups as
needed.
An unrelated group of receivers request access to a
particular transport stream.
Hosts that need to forward the transport stream to a
particular group must join the group using the protocol
IGMP.
Hosts must be a member of the group to receive the
transport stream.

Channel Container and Replication
A channel container is a mechanism used to group a number
of individual QAM channels together from a single input.
Channel containers can serve different purposes such as:
- Create a group of QAM channels to which Entitlement
Management Messages (EMM) can be multicast
- Create a group QAM channels to which an input transport
stream can be replicated
To configure a channel container determine parameter
setting for Channel-container:
- Decide on a name for the Channel-container
- Determine if TSIDs or QAMs will be in the container

Digital Video Broadcast Overview

What is Digital Video Broadcast (DVB)?

Set of standards for digital television that define how
distribution systems such as cable or satellite interact at
the physical and data link layers in the network
Transmission scheme based on the MPEG-2 video
compression/transmission scheme
Conditional Access Service (CAS) defines the
scrambling and descrambling of content
Transport stream includes service information (SI) such
as, the electronic program guide, searching, filtering,
and subtitling
- SI resides in SI tables that are injected into the transport
stream

Conditional Access System Overview

What is Conditional Access System (CAS)?

Conditional Access System is an en-/de-cryption
management method
- Broadcaster controls subscriber's access to DTV services
- Smart cards are used by subscribers to access services

Why have Conditional Access?

Prevents unauthorized access to content
- Content is scrambled so only paying customers have access
Can scramble different content
- Premium subscription packages
- VOD, Digital Broadcast, SDV, etc
- Protect revenue streams

CAS in the D5 UEQ

CAS configuration is similar to configuring interfaces for

Ethernet ports and QAM channels except here it is the CAS
server interface
- Each CAS server interface has a configured:
- Entitlement Control Message Generator (ECMG)
- Event Information System (EIS)
No two similar server interface types can be configured with the
same name
- Different types (ECMG,EIS, and EMMG) could have the same name
CAS server interfaces are session-based and transmit the
following on the appropriate QAM channels:
- Entitlement Management Messages (EMM)
- Entitlement Control Messages (ECM)
- Conditional Access Tables (CAT)
Packet Identifier remapping of tables prior to transmission

SimulCrypt

Supports multiple CAS solutions which gives

operators flexibility in implementing content protection
within their networks.
Handles vendor-specific pre-encrypted content and
stream encryption by adding descriptor pointers and
Program Identifiers (PIDS) into:
- D5 UEQ Program Map Tables (PMT)
- Program Association Tables (PAT)
- Network Information Tables (NIT)

SimulCrypt in the D5 UEQ

The SimulCrypt solution in D5 UEQ:

- Accepts scrambling session information
- Interfaces with ECMGs
- Creates and supplies the Control Words (CW),
- Receives prepared ECM messages
- Ensures synchronization of CWs and transmission time
(for ECMs)
- Interfaces with Subscriber Management Systems (SMS)
so that it can forward EMM messages and Private Data
messages to subscriber Set Top Boxes (STBs).
Extension to SimulCrypt allows you to turn on scrambling
without concern for specific program numbers by use of
wildcard program numbers

How CAS Works

A Conditional Access System is made up of two

components:
- Signal scrambling using Digital Video Broadcast
Common Scrambling Algorithm
- Encryption and decryption of electronic keys (Control
Words)

8-265

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Signal Flow

General flow of transport stream through CA System:

- Scramble Done at the Headend

- Encryption
- Decryption
Done at the STB
- Descramble

8-266

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Scrambling

Scrambling uses Control Words (CWs):

- Scrambling protects content by using CWs to prevent
unauthorized content decoding.
- CWs are changed to prevent hacking, anywhere from 10
seconds to hours depending on the protection required.

February 09

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved 8-267 February 09

ECM Encryption Message

Entitlement Control Message (ECM)

- Encryption is used to protect the CWs which are
transmitted to the descrambler to decode the scrambled
content.
- These encrypted keys are sent to STBs via an ECM.

Entitlement Control Message Generator (ECMG)

- Sends messages which allow STBs to decrypt content

8-268

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
EMM Encryption Message

Entitlement Management Messages (EMMs)

- EMMs send information about subscribers to STBs.
- Each STB receives EMMs specific for that STB.
- EMMs contain service keys for each STB which are
scrambled using the private key from the STB smart
card.

Entitlement Management Message Generator (EMMG)

- Sends messages which tell STBs which content it is
entitled to (subscribed to, paid for)

8-269

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Decryption

Decrypting EMMs
- The STB decrypts the service keys in EMMs (using the
STB private keys).
Decrypting CWs
- The service keys are then used to decrypt the CWs in
ECM messages.

8-270

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Descrambling

Descrambling
- Finally, the STB descrambler will use the CWs to
descramble content.

February 09
Broadcast Video Limitations

All content stacked on transport

All TV programs available to digital TV subscriber at all times
Requires a high bandwidth network that translates to lots of
downstream frequencies
Requirement for HD content increase overall bandwidth needs

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February 09 February 09

Switched Digital Video
By delivering content only when requested, Switched Digital
Video (SDV) allows for more content delivery through the network
Requires network control protocols such as CCP, MCP, SSP-SIS
Video trans-coding used to normalize stream bandwidths to
common multiple for simple channel stacking
Utilizes multicast switching for efficient transmission of video
content through network

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February 09 February 09

Primary Benefits of SDV

Cost-effective bandwidth management tool

- Reduces HFC bandwidth requirements compared to existing
linear broadcast content
- Multiple concurrent services offered per QAM channel
SDV, VOD, Broadcast
- Allows scaled bandwidth usage as a function of viewer-ship
rather than as a function of TV programs offered
Enables capture of detailed viewer-ship data
- Enables optimized system performance, program offerings, line-
ups etc.
- Provides exact data on viewer demographics to enable better
directed advertising to be deployed
- New directed advertising can be done at the node level to
different demographic groups

Sessions

SDV uses empty sessions to first reserve bandwidth called shells.

Shells are bound with session information when needed.
Sessions are logical, external entities used to manage internal
operations of the stream-based processing with the D5 UEQ.
Two different types of sessions can exist, a statically bound
session, or a SDV session.
- A statically bound session is typically used for VOD and
Broadcast applications and managed directly between the SRM
and the Edge Device. These SRM sessions must be torn down
and re-initialized with any configuration changes.
- An SDV session is quite different. It is based on a shell session
that can have program details bound and unbound at any point
during its lifetime.

D5 UEQ SDV Protocol Support

D5 UEQ supports two types of SDV applications:

- SDV using Edge Resource Manager (ERM) Interface

SDV Using ERM Interface

In an SDV application using primarily VREP/RTSP:

- STB client requests content using the Session Manager
(SM)
- SM requests sessions to be setup to the Edge Resource
Manager (ERM)
Interface using VREP sends configuration to ERM
- The ERM is aware of all QAM assets and maps session
request to a QAM with available bandwidth in the serving
group for the STB
Interface using RSTP interface sets up and tears down
session messages
- EQAM receives request to map stream to QAM channel
- EQAM requests content using IGMP request

Redundant Multicast Streams

D5 UEQ has the ability to identify a dropped multicast stream

and attempt to join a secondary multicast stream with the
same content
Two methods available:
- Hot/Warm joins only one multicast stream at a time.
Less bandwidth intensive but takes longer to recover to a
redundant stream
- Hot/Hot joins multiple multicast streams of the same
content.
Requires more bandwidth (2 to 3 times more) but recovery
time has no impact on the customer

February 09
M-CMTS Overview

The D5 UEQ supports a Modular-Cable Modem Termination System

(M-CMTS)
M-CMTS is a reference edge architecture that separates the
downstream physical layer (PHY) processing from the rest of the CMTS
and places it into the EdgeQAM with similar video PHY processing
The process facilitates the converging of MPEG digital video and
DOCSIS IP voice and data networks
Allows for network flexibility, scaling, lower CAPEX, reliability
D5 UEQ support for additional interfaces:
DOCISIS Timing Interface (DTI)
Downstream External PHY Interface (DEPI) DOCSIS MPEG
Transport (DMPT) Mode for interfacing with M-CMTS Core
Full DOCSIS Control Plane support to interoperate with the M-
CMTS core devices

February 09
D5 UEQ Support

D5 UEQ supports DTI, DEPI and Downstream RF Interface

(DRFI)/D3.0 RF specifications.
Capable of dual-DTI server operation through the use of an
additional DTI dongle.
Supports redundant GigE ports for the reception of DEPI traffic.
DEPI traffic consists of the DOCSIS data and MAC traffic that has
not passed through the final processing and RF up-conversion
stage performed by a traditional CMTS.
- All D5 UEQ GigE links may be used to carry DEPI traffic
- All of the D5 UEQ QAM channels can be used as DOCSIS
downstreams

10-349

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
DEPI Control Plane

The DEPI control plane dynamically creates MPT sessions between the
core and the D5 UEQ and allows the core to modify certain RF properties
of the QAM channels with which the sessions are associated.
Requires a control plane connection to exist on every GigE link that a
DEPI data session will be established upon.
- This results in the D5 UEQ having to support up to four individual DEPI control
plane endpoints, one for each of its four GigE ports.
The D5 UEQ GigE MAC redundancy feature :
- Supports a GigE port to be nominated as a backup for other ports
- Will continue to operate with the control plane connections active

February 09
DEPI Mode

DEPI traffic can be sent from the M-CMTS core to the D5 UEQ
using DMPT (DOCSIS MPEG-TS) traffic format
DEPI Control Plane is used by M-CMTS core devices to setup dynamic
DEPI Data Plane connections to the D5 UEQ
DEPI DMPT mode carries DOCSIS data and MAC frames as
MPEG packets.
The finalized MPEG packets are transported over IP to the D5
UEQ using two different approaches:
- Within L2TPv3 packets
- Directly in UDP/IP packets
Each DEPI DMPT flow is associated with a single QAM output
channel.

10-352

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
DEPI DMPT Streams
A D5 UEQ QAM channel with DEPI DMPT traffic can be primary or
secondary.
- Primary downstream channel - a QAM channel receiving DEPI DMPT
traffic with DOCSIS timing; can support all DOCSIS cable modems
(D1.x/2.0/3.
- Secondary downstream channel - a QAM channel receiving DEPI
DMPT traffic without DOCSIS timing; can only support D3.0 cable
modems
- Wideband mode - the M-CMTS Core generates the primary
downstream QAM channel locally while the D5 UEQ handles the
secondary downstream QAM channels
DOCSIS 1.0/1.1/2.0 cable modems can only operate with primary
downstream channels.
DOCSIS 3.0 modems require a minimum of one primary downstream
channel.
- Remaining downstream channels can be primary or secondary
10-353

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
L2TPv3 and UDP
Transporting DMPT packets over IP is possible using Layer 2 Tunneling
Protocol v3 (L2TPv3) or User Data Protocol (UDP).
For L2TPv3, the DMPT MPEG traffic is placed in an L2TPv3 packet
-
The L2TPv3 traffic is typically sent as native traffic, without any UDP
header, using IP protocol.
- The D5 UEQ also supports L2TPv3/UDP
For UDP/IP, the DMPT MPEG traffic is placed in an IP packet addressed
to an IP address of a D5 UEQ GigE link using static UDP mapping
- The destination UDP port of the IP packet is mapped to a specific
output QAM channel.
- All traffic received by this UDP/IP combination is passed to the correct
QAM channel for DOCSIS timestamp correction (as required) and RF
up-conversion.

10-354

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
L2TPv3 and UDP/IP Configuration
Requirements
Using either L2TPv3 or UDP/IP requires that static
mappings be configured on the D5 UEQ.
The Session ID/IP or UDP/IP settings configured on the D5
UEQ must be used by the M-CMTS Core to setup its
mappings.
In both cases, since IP packet fragmentation is actively
avoided, a maximum of seven MPEG packets are carried.

February 09
DTI Support

Accurate Downstream/Upstream time synchronization

is essential for DOCSIS to operate.
The DOCSIS Timing Interface, DTI, uses a timing server
to distribute a common timestamp to the D5 UEQ and
the M-CMTS Core.
As a result the D5 UEQ has an identical copy of the
DOCSIS timestamp and is able to ensure that the
DOCSIS system can operate within this distributed
environment.
The DTI server delivers a 10.24MHz clock and DOCSIS
timestamp to each client.

10-356

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
Dual DTI Support

The D5 UEQ supports a dual DTI by using an external

dongle that provides two server connections from the D5
UEQs single DTI port.
The DTI port on the D5 UEQ is internally wired to deliver
two separate DTI server signals to the DTI controller on the
D5 UEQ allowing for redundant server setup.

February 09

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 10-357 February 09

Time Offset Adjustment

To ensure hitless downstream load balancing (DLB), the

DOCSIS CM timing offset on the original and new downstream
must be very close
The D5 UEQ timing offset adjustment Feature allows you to
adjust the DTI offset per QAM port
The timing offset for a given CM on a D5 UEQ downstream is
subtracted from the timing offset for the same CM on the same
node (service area) and is applied to the D5.
Example:
D5(config-qam-port)#dti offset -40

QAM Sparing Overview

The D5 UEQ provides for multiple failover configurations as

primary/spare QAM modules via QAM redundancy
ARRIS recommends the following configurations:
- Three sparing groups configured as 1:1
- Two sparing groups configured as 2:1
- One sparing group configured as 5:1 s
The spare QAM module may be configured for one of three
levels of readiness:
- Cold Standby- spare is powered off
- Busy Standby- spare has active traffic. Spare traffic is
interrupted when primary module fails and is restored when
primary recovers
- Hot Standby same configuration as primary except the RF
output is disabled
11-395

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
1:1 QAM Sparing
The recommended sparing group configured as 1:1 is as follows:
- Slot 1 primary, slot 2 spare
- Slot 3 primary, slot 4 spare
- Slot 5 primary, slot 6 spare

Example: 1:1 QAM Sparing Redundancy

P Primary slot
S Spare slot

February 09
2:1 QAM Sparing Option One
There are two recommended options for the 2:1 QAM sparing
groups:
- Option 1:
Slot 1 and 3 primary, slot 5 spare
Slot 2 and 4 primary, slot 6 spare

Example: 2:1 QAM Sparing Redundancy

February 09
Failover

Failover to a spare QAM module can occur manually or

automatically.
A failover can be forced by manually shutting down a primary
module or by removing it from the slot.
Automatic failover can be caused by:
- Module powers down due to exceeded environmental thresholds
- MUX FPGA heartbeat fails
- Monitored RF power output is too low
No automatic failover will be performed on traffic problems such
as video oversubscription, buffer overflows or underflows, etc.
In a properly configured spare group, an active module must have
at least one QAM channel enabled for traffic to be allowed to
failover to the spare module.
11-400

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Failback

Failback occurs when the spare module configuration

switches back to the primary
- The switched running configuration is left unchanged
unless failback occurs either manually or automatically
Manual failback mode is used when the failed module is
forced out-of-service via command to bring a QAM module in
failed slot to in-service level.
Automatic failback is performed whenever the primary
module fault is cleared, usually when the module is replaced.
- It may be desirable to test the replacement module before
bringing it online prior to recovering the spare module

February 09
Enable QAM Sparing via CLI
The spare-group command allows grouping modules in a spare
group.
Use the following steps to setup QAM 1 and 3 to be spared by
QAMs where QAMs 1 and 3 are primary QAMs and QAM 5 is
designated as the spare.

GigE Trunking

Trunking allows individual Ethernet interfaces to be

combined into a logical grouping for a larger bandwidth
trunk by load-sharing.
The total bandwidth of a trunk is equivalent to the
aggregate of all the physical Ethernet interfaces (links)
in that trunk.
Trunking accomplishes high network availability, load
balancing and redundancy by automatically redirecting
traffic to surviving links of a trunk.
If one or more physical links in that trunk are disabled,
they will be brought back into service when the links
are no longer failed.

GigE Redundancy

The D5 UEQ supports n+1 GigE redundancy: 1+1, 2+1,

3+1.
- In the 2+1 and 3+1 options, a single GigE port can be used
as a spare for two or three other ports.
- When operating in 2+1 or 3+1, the backup port is allocated
to the first primary port that fails.
To ensure that the backup port continues to be available,
the D5 UEQ will automatically switchback to the primary
port when it recovers.
When using the redundancy option, the primary GigE
port is configured as normal with IP address details, etc.
Unlike trunk groups, GigE ports functions independently
with no load-sharing.

February 09
Enable GigE Redundancy

To enable redundancy, the ip bundle command is

used to explicitly nominate the backup GigE port by
specifying the correct GigE interface.
- Example:
D5(config)#interface gigabitethernet 0/1
D5(config-gig-if)#ip bundle gigabitethernet 0/2
D5(config-gig-if)#exit

Disable association to an IP bundle by issuing a no ip

bundle command within the primary port.
- Example:
D5(config-gig-if)#no ip bundle gigabitethernet 0/2
D5(config-gig-if)#exit

February 09
Redundancy Switch Back

The GigE redundancy feature provides control over the switching

back to a primary port if it becomes active again.
The ip bundle policy non-revertive command, available in
global configuration mode, is used to prevent reverting back to a
primary GigE port if it becomes available again.
The ip bundle policy revertive command allows automatic
reverting between interfaces to occur.
- This command also allows a wait-time to be configured to deal
with any delays that occur during link activation (such as STP
link-state resolution).
Example:
D5(config)# ip bundle policy non-revertive
D5(config)# ip bundle policy revertive wait-time 20

Redundant Stream Groups via CLI
Redundant stream groups enables multiple input stream definitions to be
associated together, for redundancy reasons, and activated for forwarding.
The configuration statically configures multiple input stream definitions
This protocol relies on the use of multiple MulticastTransportHeaders to
identify input IP multicast streams, one of which will be forwarded as an
output program to a QAM channel.
The command below enables a list of stream classifiers to be used in place
of the current classifier single input command available.
- List of stream classifier parameters:
video [udp <454> src-ip 1.1.1.1 dest-ip 1.1.1.1] virtual-prog
<channel-container>
is equivalent to
video [redundant-stream 'super_str'] virtual-prog <channel-container>

11-422

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Redundant Stream Groups
The redundant stream refers to a named redundant stream group that
contains the list of video input classifiers to use for the video sources.
- Example:
video redundant-stream 'super_str'
video redundant-stream-group 'super_str'
are equivalent to:
video {udp <port>} {src-ip <addr>} dest-ip <addr> {interface {ip
<addr> | gigabit <X/Y.Z>} {priority <1-255>}

11-423

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved February09

February 09
Policy Definitions
The redundant-stream-group configuration menu also includes some
policy definitions.
Policy definitions allow manual configuration for particular behavior of the
redundant-stream-groups.
- The policy active <hot-hot | hot-cold> option determines how the multiple
video input classifiers should be treated.
- The policy switch-over <ms> option determines the switch over time that is
used to identify when an active video source is no longer active, and a switch
over is necessary.
There is a default switch-over of 750ms.

February 09
System Security Overview

The D5 UEQ supports several types of protocols that communicate

information for administering remote user access to the network
D5 UEQ system security provides for:
- RADIUS Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service
- Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) limited framework in
support of RADIUS
- TACACS + - Terminal Access Controller Access Control System
RADIUS and TACACS+ support:
- Remote authentication of users gaining access to the D5 UEQ
- Local authorization of commands based on command privilege level
Authentication can be finely tuned to different CLI interfaces such as the
console line or the multiple vty (Telnet) lines
Multiple RADIUS/TACACS+ servers can be configured and added to server
groups to allow for server redundancy.
Enabling RADIUS/TACACS disables all configuration capabilities in the Web
Manager and allows you only monitor access independent of what password
you enter.

TACACS+

Terminal Access Controller Access Control System plus (TACACS+)

is a TCP-based protocol supporting distinct request/response
transactions for authentication, authorization, and accounting.
Supports full payload encryption.
Offers authentication for a wide variety of user services including
login, privilege-level change, such as entering enable mode, and
password change.
Employs an unbounded, server-controlled challenge-response
mechanism.
- The server may issue any number of challenges to a user
prior to accepting or rejecting a service request.
- If the server rejects a service request, the client drops the
connection.
- Otherwise, the client establishes service using parameters
such as session timeout, idle timeout, or privilege level as
directed by the server.

February 09
Local Authentication

For RADIUS login authentication :

- Supports only login and enable users
- Assigns a privilege level to each CLI command, from 0 to 15
Privilege level associated with login is typical set to 0
Privilege level associated with enable level is 15
Command assignments set locally
For TACACS+ login authentication:
- Issues the enable command with an optional parameter.
- Changes the users privilege level and makes all CLI
commands up to that level available to the user.
Based on a users privilege level, commands are authorized
locally

February 09
Server Groups

To set up AAA authentication, remote servers must be available.

Servers can be configured with global and individual settings.
An AAA server group is a list of one or more servers used to
perform remote authentication
The D5 UEQ supports up to three separate server groups, each
with their own name.
The method lists is a combination of AAA server groups and
local/none settings that can be lined up in any order to meet the
customers needs.
An method list may contain one or more AAA method
- AAA capabilities can continue to operate even if some
methods become unavailable due to network failures or
configuration errors.

February 09
Line Interfaces
When AAA is enabled on the D5 UEQ, the user can modify how the
user authentication command is setup.
The user has the option of tailoring how AAA operates on each of the
CLI interfaces (also called lines) such as console and Telnet on the
D5 UEQ.
Each line interface supports a CLI session.
The CLI sessions behavior is completely dependent on the
configuration of the associated line.
- However, a sessions authentication process can override a
lines configuration for the duration of a session.
The aaa new-model command provides a wizard-like configuration
interface to enable AAA and set up defaults for all lines
- Once aaa new-model runs, no other configuration changes
can be made until the start of a new login session
- This command disables configuration activities on the Web
Manager 12-447

ARRIS Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. February09

February 09
Configure/Disable AAA

To use AAA, the AAA sub-system must be enabled through the use
of the aaa new-model command.
The result of the aaa new-model command is to:
- Enable the AAA service
- Setup the default method lists for all of the AAA
interfaces (authn, authz and acct)
- Setup each lines AAA configuration to point to the
default method list
When AAA services are no longer required, run the
no aaa new-model command.
- Removes all defined method-lists and all method lists
assigned to the different AAA interfaces on each line
- Does not remove the RADIUS server or RADIUS server-
group settings 12-448

Event Log Database

The D5 UEQ generates asynchronous event messages, or events, in

two ways: as part of normal operations and in response to error
conditions
Multiple identical events are uniquely managed by the Event Log
database.
- Count column tracks multiple identical events by displaying them in
incrementing counts starting at one with the creation of an event.
Subsequent identical events increment the count by one.
- First Time column displays the first occurrence of an event.
- Last Time column displays the last occurrence of an event.
The Event Log Database manages occurrences using the First Time
and Last Time columns, instead of creating multiple listings for the
same event.

Configure System Timing

The D5 UEQ supports time synchronization from an

Network Time Protocol (NTP) server.
Useful for keeping logs, determining accurate time of
events and conditional access timing.
Each NTP server configured is polled at a specified
interval.
The Master NTP server is authoritative, and sets system
time.
The first server configured becomes the master,
subsequent are backup.
Default interval is 300 seconds.
