The CG Basrah Water Purification Facility was built in late of 2013. This
facility currently treats all the water needed for Consulate. The facility can
purify up to 330,000 gallons per day (Waterworks Technologies, each
ROWPU can purify up to 165,000 US Gallons/day).
When visiting/entering the Water Point yard you must Sign In the Visitors
Log and you will be escorted at all the time,
At the Water Point we use several chemicals for Pretreatment and Water
Treatment and it is recommended to stay away from those chemicals.
When working around you must follow the given instructions from the
Water Department Personnel.
Below is list of the chemicals and their usage:
Chlorine (Sodium Hypochlorite, Cl2): Is used for disinfection, usually
is used to kill any bacteria or microorganism that may be in the water.
Antiscalant: Is used in mainly industries including in drinking water
industry, it is soluble in water. It is used to control the scale.
Acid (Hydrochloric Acid, HCl): Is used in mainly industries including in
drinking water industry, it is soluble in water. In our case is used to control
pH, acid lowers pH.
Caustic (Sodium Hydroxide, NaOH): Is used in many industries
including in drinking water industry, it is soluble in water. In our case is
used to control the pH, caustic raises the pH.
Coagulant (RoQuest 6000): Is used in mainly industries including in
drinking water industry, it is soluble in water. Coagulant removes dirt and
other particles in water.
SMBS (Sodium Metabisulphite): Is used to neutralize Sodium
Hypochlorite (to kill Chlorine).
It is employees responsibility to clean, inspect and maintain their PPE in
good condition, they must clean used PPE after each use and to store
them properly in the PPE storage cabinet.
First Aid Measure: Remove victim immediately from the source of
exposure. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get prompt
medical attention. Never make an unconscious person to vomit or drink
fluids. In case of skin contact remove contaminated clothing immediately
and wash skin with soap and water. In case of Eye contact immediately
flush with plenty of water up to 15 minutes. Get medical attention
immediately.
Hygiene Measures: Practice good personal hygiene after using
chemicals. Wash your hands before and after eating, smoking and using
the toilet. Remove contaminated clothing and wash the skin thoroughly
with soap and water after work. If your clothing is contaminated, wash
your work clothes separately from the rest of your familys clothing.
Eating, smoking and water fountains prohibited in immediate work area.
Always read the Label First and then follow the directions.
Ensure when filling chemicals, the chemical selected is correct for the
chemical tank being filled, (Always add Acid to Water, never Water to
Acid, A before W.)

transferring/mixing/handling chemicals, avoid contaminations.

spray any electrical components - Always keep on mind-Avoid Water and
Electrical components.
Remember: When you come back from R&R, prior using water from the
tap, always open the faucet and run water for 2 to 3 minutes.
Water coming from the Tap is safe for:

Personal hygiene (shaving, and cleaning of equipment daily sponge
washing, brushing teeth,
Food preparation,
Medical staff and equipment cleaning.
