ENERGY
GENERATION
INTRODUCTION
Power crisis a curse.
Possible solution is usage of renewable
resources.
Human population is the only abundant
resource that has not been utilized.
In India, places like roads, railway stations,
bus stands, are all over crowded and millions
of people move round the clock. As a result
large amount of power can be obtained with
the use of a promising technology.
In order to generate electricity there are
number of methods, out of which footstep
Walking is the most common activity in
human life. When a person walks, he loses
energy to the road surface during every
step. This energy can be tapped and
converted into usable form.
The device which is embedded in the
footpath, can convert foot impact energy
into electrical form.
BASIC PRINCIPLE

The downward movement of the plate

results in rotation of the shaft of an
electrical alternator, fitted in the device, to
produce electrical energy. The top plate
reverts back to its original position due to
negating springs provided in the device

ARRANGEMENT
Arack and pinionis a
type of linear actuator
that comprises a pair of
gears which converts
rotational motion into
linear motion.
The circular

CHAIN SPROCKET

Larger sprocket is used to

transfer the rotational
force to the smaller
sprocket.
The smaller sprocket
rotates in the same
direction as that of the
larger sprocket.
This action is same as a
cycle pedaling action.
FLY WHEEL

The fly wheel is

coupled to the
smaller sprocket
shaft.
The flywheel is used
to increase the rpm
of the smaller
sprocket shaft.
The gear wheel is
coupled to the

ENERGY GENERATION
WORKING PRINCIPLE
The complete diagram of the foot step
power generation is given above.
The pushing power is converted into
electrical energy by proper driving
arrangement.
The rack & pinion, spring arrangement is
fixed at the pavement.
The spring is used to return the inclined
step in same position by releasing the load.
The larger sprocket also coupled with the
pinion shaft, so that it is running the same
The larger sprocket is coupled to the small
cycle sprocket with the help of chain (cycle).
This larger sprocket is used to transfer the
rotation force to the smaller sprocket.
The smaller sprocket is running same
direction for the forward and reverse
direction of rotational movement of the
larger sprocket.
This action locks like a cycle pedaling action.
The fly wheel and gear wheel is also coupled
to the smaller sprocket shaft.
The flywheel is used to increase the rpm of
the smaller sprocket shaft.
The pinion shaft is connected to the
supported by end bearings as shown in fig.
The gear wheel is coupled to the generator
shaft with the help of another gear wheel.
The generator is used here, is permanent
magnet D.C generator.
The generated voltage is 12Volt D.C.
This D.C voltage is stored to the Lead-acid
12 Volt battery.
The battery is connected to the inverter.
This inverter is used to convert the 12 Volt
D.C to the 230 Volt A.C.
This 230 Volt A.C voltage is used to
activate the light, fan and etc. By
APPLICATIONS

Agricultural applications.
Home applications.
It can be used in street-lightening.
Used in case of emergency power
failures.
It can be used as a source for both A.C
and D.C applications
APPLICATION IN STREET LIGHTNING
ADVANTAGES

Power generation is easy.

Easy construction.
No need of fuel input.
Non-conventional system.
Battery can be used to store the generated
power.
Economical and eco-friendly.
DISADVANTAGES

Only applicable for a particular place.

Proper maintenance.
Initial cost of this arrangement is high.
Care should be taken for batteries
FUTURE ASPECTS
We can use this principal in the speed
breakers at high ways , where the vehicles
rush too much , and a greater amount of
electricity can be produced.

If we use this project at very busy stairs ,

then we can produce efficient useful
electrical energy for large purposes .
