PARTS OF A SENTENCE

SUBJECT Doer of the action


VERB Can either be linking, transitive, or intransitive
LINKING VERB Links the subject to a complement
TRANSITIVE VERB Needs a direct object
INTRANSITIVE VERB Does not need a direct object
OBJECT Can either be direct or indirect
DIRECT OBJECT Receiver of the action; answers the question what?
INDIRECT OBJECT Recipient of the direct object; answers the question to whom? or
to what?

COMPLEMENTS Adds information about a subject or an object
