ENERGY AND FINANCE:
REASON FOR THE TWO TOPICS HAND IN HAND:
 Energy conservation leads to finance earnings to
organisation(eg. Usage of CFL bulbs reduce the cost)

ENERGY FOCUS:
 By 2030 energy demand in power sector is 6,25,000MW
 Our fullfilment till date is 1,30,000MW,
REASON FOR SUDDEN OUTBURST IN
POWER DEMAND:
Lack of planning is prime, more mechanisation in
all fileds using current, availability of financial
support for mechanisation at all levels
BRIM countries and china has growing economy,
more investments in all fields demands more
power,
Growing population, changing
lifestyles( inclusions of more machines in home),
Increased recreational facilities( development of
huge multiplexes, malls)
REASON FOR SUDDEN OUTBURST IN POWER DEMAND:
Exploration of fuels like asia’s largest coal mines in uttar
pradesh and uttaranchal brings developments as in neyveli,
Offshore exploration of natural gas and oil through NELP
block tenders has to be used and one answer is to produce
power,
Wastage of produced power by theft, long transmission
lines, purposeless wastage(leaving lights and fan switched
on in social areas),
Production of power by wind energy at one place, can
either be sold to EB or compensated to your organisations
demand located in the same state,
RECENT TRENDS IN POWER SECTOR:
Till 2007 125MW, 250MW, 500MW were the
commercial boilers available, for 1200MW
more units need to be constructed,
Recently BHEL has come up with 600MW
Barh and tuticorin units,
BHEL tied up with Siemens for 800MW
technology( Super critical boiler ),
600MW are now competed by even L&T,
hence faster completion required as projects
carried out under high interest rates, hence
earning out from them earlier books profit,
ANSWER TO BRIDGE THE GAP:
 More power generation units at reduced cost by thermal,
 Wind farms,
 Hydroelectricity,
 Nuclear plants,
 Cogeneration units
 Local generation by diesel generation sets,
 Power generation by alternative fuels like LSHS, biogas, biomass,
 Transmission lines can be made by DC system using DC transformers as in developed countries,
COGENERATION UNITS:
 Company might require high temp. heat for its productivity like heat to dry klinkers in cement industry, heat to dry wet
sugar in sugar industry, steam to dry processed textile material,
 Waste heat after productive application is recovered and reheated to produce steam to drive generator coupled turbines,
 Planning is done to satisfy the plants demand ,

REASON:
 Most of the times the waste from the plant is the fuel, min. fuel cost,
 Power unit is of lower capacity hence waste heat posses more than
50% energy to drive it,
 Plant becomes self sufficient,
ALTERNATIVE FUELS:
 Always combustion by coal raises cost,
 Burners capable to burn saw dust, dried crops, sugarcane bagasses, biomass, biogas are used,
 In sugar factories after crane crushing bagasses are used for heating,
 In villages long transmission lines post a problem of wastage, biogas is the good alternative. Produced from emulsification of animal and human dung, the
methane gas produced runs the gas turbines,
 Biomass fuel is a mixture of saw dust, dried crops, sugarcane bagasses and items like these. Calorific value we get is high from this,
ALTERNATIVE FUELS:
REASON:
 Cheap fuel,
 min. pollution, clean fuel, cheaper cost of production
 Perennial supply of some form of fuel caters the need,
WIND ENERGY :
 After the copenhagen meet, PM wants to establish
20000MW in india by 2022,
 In developed countries, wind mills are set inside the
shallow sea few kms from shore,
 Non polluting fuel,
NUCLEAR PLANTS :
 Companies like GE-Hitachi, Areva, Toshiba are planning
to set up light water reactors in gujarat and andhra
pradesh,
 High calorific value from small fuel,
 Compact size plant,
THREATS TO POWER SECTOR :
 Strict emmission norms as in developed countries,
 Lack of supply fuels like coal to thermal units, lack of
wind, water due to seasonal changes might upset the
generation,
 Frequent wear and tear of parts especially in thermal units
:
as more mechanical components,
SOLUTIONS
 Our country is carbon trading, hence strict emmission
norms wouldn’t affect us,
 Energy is being derived from non-renewable sources,
hence almost equal distribution is present,
 Our country’s major component contributor BHEL is an
expert, any time availability of spares can be done, more
different alloy and stainless steel items are used to reduce
the wear and tear,
OPPORTUNITIES IN ENERGY:
Orders getting delayed but power demand on steep rise,
Companies already producing power are stepping up additional facilities at reduced time,
Neighboring country china has more cheaper power equipments at reduced interest rates through chinese banks,
Faster completion of projects through speedy supply of quality components is the key and can be achieved by
increased number of vendors,
OPPORTUNITIES IN TRICHY:
 BHEL is main source to many companies,
 Job works to be done as per their design using their material,
 Jobs weight vary from 50Tons to 50 gms,
 Choose the jobs according to the design understandability, inhouse facilities, rate and volume of the order,
 BHEL, trichy concentrates on boiler drum and its mechanical reinforcements ranging from foundation columns, bracings, cross member beams, pressure part panels, hangers and tie rods, alloy and stainless steel structures,
 Thermax, L&T, have setup offices in trichy to cater their project with components from us,
 Windmill supporting tower orders by suzlon, Vestas are in surplus where large handling facilities are required,
 Railways machining orders to supply engine cranks, shafts and diesel loco engine internals,
 BHEL valves ranging from 2” to 16” are worldwide famous, long pending orders for machining, assembling and testing are present,
FINANCE:
 Any organisations finance is key role,
 Loans from banks should be analyzed for interest rates, repayment period and repayment terms and conditions,
 Chinese banks offer more money at reduced rates but equipments should be purchased from them,
 A financial magazine providing solutions to families in debts, suggest that funds to be invested in mutual funds, shares and share related assets as growth is at 16% average against your debt
interest rate at 14%-15%,
 Discussions with financial experts and institutions necessary,
 Experts from barclays say that developing countries like india may face a market downfall, as some companies here trying for territorial expansion may sell off their reserve shares and assets to
gain funds for the acquisition, if decent number of companies does like this their shares may be available at cheaper rates bringing the share market index down,
FINANCE:
 To be an enterprenur, first undertake all the basic works in your organisation without dignity,
 Present yourself even to basic activities initially to learn how it gets done,
 Pay attention to all govt activities and papers, learn the subsidies available and try to benefit for your organisation,
 Understand all the areas from finance, purchase, stocks to production,
 Strict in your payments, keep always a check to crossconfirm your payments and decissions,
 Keep track of your banks transactions, to see whether any computer errors or wrong debits are done,
 See that even in worst conditions your organisation should stand financially for the next 2-3 months,
 Many organisations not strict in their finance have lost their business even when the market demand is good,
FINANCE:
 Think innovatively and cost effectively for all the problems,
 In case of soap industry in japan, QC want to check any empty cartoon box moves in assembly line, suggested: x ray machine, cost effective:fan with speed to blow away empty box,
 For space expeditions, source for writing notes, suggested: non gravity flowing ink pen by US, cost effective:pencils by russians,
 In case of electronic goods dealers bulk discounts are given at festive season to increase volume sales thereby demanding bulk discount from their manufacturers, hence they gain what they have
lost,
 In the mobile chain group, univercell, company has tied up with small software firms, to sell anti theft softwares and softwares to receive emails as sms even in cheaper non GPRS handsets, hence
solutions under one roof is the key for their volume,
 Keep track of your company’s monthly expenses, analyze the area where more expenditure occurs, try to minimize it, calculate whether you gain from the business,
FINANCE:
 Everyone must learn to do investments in shares, mutual funds, share related assets, atleast as paper works at college levels,
 Understand the market behaviour, peoples trend nowadays is to buy and not to save,
 Mentality should change to save, invest in market so that this good practice would help at any times,
 Careful investments in gold, shares, land, mutual funds, dollars should be planned as according to market conditions and predictions,
TO BE AN ENTERPRENUR:
 Vission, Mission, resource augmentation required,
 Identification of the correct order after several analysis necessary,
 A few years experience in any business under an effective leadership necessary,
 Exposure at all level functioning in your organisation necessary,
 Constant monitoring and sudden cross checks at all levels in your organisation necessary,
 Read more, collective different ideas, attend more seminars and meetings,
 Keep weekly updates of your activities, take decissions collectively,
