About our BCA

The BCA program is started in 2001 when the

Mangalore University has just came out with a new three
years professional degree program.
The main objective of this course is to provide the
students the recent It skills so that immediately after the
course the graduates can be employable

The College is providing a high standard education to

the students and also training them in semester end
projects to equip them in the IT industries.
The students have to undergo the project work under the
guidance of eminent MNCs for one semester and their
project is valued for 800 Marks.

The Syllabus of the program is constantly changing once

in 3 years in order to cope up with the present IT market.
Since its inception the syllabus has changed thrice from

non credit based semester scheme during the initial stage

The Salient Features of the Credit Based Semester

Scheme:

The Bachelor of Computer Application course shall carry

certain number of credits.
Credits normally represent the weightage of a course and
are a function of teaching, learning and evaluation strategies
such as number of
contact hours, the course content,
teaching methodology, learning expectations, maximum
marks, etc.
In the proposed programs, in general, 2 hours of instructions
per week in a semester is assigned one credit. In terms of
evaluation, one credit is equivalent to 50 marks in a
semester.
On these basis, a three year degree program will have a
maximum of 100 credits.

The other features of the Credit Based

Semester Scheme are

The BCA program is structured on semester basis.

The relative importance of subjects of study and
activities are quantified in terms of credits and also their
overall relative importance.
The subjects of study include foundation courses,
general studies and interdisciplinary subjects.

The program permits horizontal mobility in course

selections.
The students are required to take part in cocurricular and extra-curricular activities and their
participation is compulsory as a part of the credit
based system. .
The curricula and question papers are unitized.
The declaration of result is based on the aggregate
percentage of marks obtained as well as on Grade Point
Average earned.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM

The duration of BCA Program shall extend over six

semesters (three academic years) of 16 weeks each.
Each semester shall consist of 16 weeks of study
(excluding the time spent for the conduct of final
examination of each semester).

Group-I: LANGUAGES

The candidate shall opt for General and Communicative

English as compulsory subject and one of the languages
listed below:

Konkani and Additional English.
