CASE STUDY 2
1. What is novel about the iPod?
Novel about the iPod are colour, casing and speed of transfer data.
2. What type of innovation would you class the Sony Walkman as and why?
Type of innovation would class the Sony Walkman as architectural
because component are same but the system is
upgrade. Sony
executive wanted a high quality but
small stereo type player to
listen to on long
flights. The Walkman came with a small
recorder at the first place but was modified with the recording
pieces removed and stereo circuitry added.

3. What type of innovation would you class the iPod as and why?
The type of innovation would class the iPod is same with Sony
Walkman as architectural because component are the same but
the system is upgrade. There were small mp3 players around at
the time and there were players that could hold a lot of music
but in 2001 , Apple Computer released a small, sleek-looking
device that called the iPod.
4. What does the author mean by "lightning-bolt" moments?
Meaning of lightning-bolt moments is more than billion.

5. If "the iPod did not begin with a specific technological breakthrough"

as Steve Jobs maintains, how can it still be classed as an innovation?
IPod can still be classed as an innovation with the FireWire
technology. Apple had, back in the 1990s invented a technology
called FireWire, which is basically a tool for moving data between
digital devices which is in large quantities, very quickly.
6. What is licensing and why did Apple choose to license its
FireWire technology?
Apple licensed this technology to various Japanese consumer
electronics companies which used it in digital camcorders and
players and eventually started adding FireWire ports to iMacs
and creating video editing software. It is also easy
because can
copy the wire to another company for an
example is Sony.

7. Why, according to the author, does innovation especially technological

innovation, have an "aura" around it? Give an example of another product
with an aura.
Before you get to the surface of one product, you encounter what could
be called its aura. The commercial version of an aura is a brand.Aura is
also attractive for the example are car, iPod, Sony Walkman and etc.
8. What do you think Steve Jobs means when he says that the iPod
is about "navigating content"?
It was about being very focused and not trying to do too much
with the device which would have been its complication
and
therefore, its demise. IPod will be created
another vision and
energy storage.

9. Why does Steve Jobs believe that imitators of the iPod like Dell
do not pose a threat?
Steve Jobs know the only Apple could have developed the iPod.
Like the device itself. Apples core strength of knowing how to
make very sophisticated technology comprehensible to mere
mortals is in even greater demand. IPod is not creating but selling
more chip.
10.From what you know about how the iPod has evolved since 2003,
do you think that Apple has continued to innovate?
Why?
Yes, of course. The imply are large market share and lot of brand
mp3 are coming in the market. The barrier of entry
become high
and the demand of the consumer is
wider.
