BROADCAST STANDARDS
Presented by:
Louielito U. Ferrolino, ECE

MF Broadcast Band

The frequency allocation is from 526.5 to 1705 kHz

MF Broadcast Channel

The band of frequencies occupied by the carrier and two (2)sidebands of an

AM Broadcast signal with the carrier frequency at the center. Channels shall
be designated by the assigned carrier frequencies starting from 531 kHz in
increments of 9 kHz.

Call Signs

Broadcast stations are assigned by prefixes depending on the location of

their licenses
DZ and DW Luzon
DY Visayas
DX Mindanao
DT, DU, and DV other call sign prefixes assigned to the philippines

GENERAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AM

TRANSMISSION AND BROADCAST

Adequacy of components
Compliance with Electrical Wiring Rules
Regulation of Supply Voltage
Protection (persons and equipment)

DETAILED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Consideration of the Antenna System (ground wave)

Location of the Antenna Site

Related to population

Soil Conductivity

Conductivity of the path between the site and the target area

Towers above 150ft from the ground are required to put up standard lighting and
painting.

Antenna Design

Vertical Polarization

Radio frequency current meters must be installed permanently

DETAILED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Transmitting Equipment

Location and layout

Adequate space for all equipment, ventilation and A/C, and lighting

Design and construction

Must be able to maintain its carrier power within the required limits +10%, whether at
fullpower daytime or at reduced power at night time. Pc = I2/R

At least 90% modulation

Must be able to maintain the operating frequency +/- 10 Hz of the assigned frequency.

The carrier shift should not exceed 5%.

Noise level should be 45dB below.

Must be equipped with indicating instruments to continuously measure the current and
voltage of the equipment.

DETAILED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Transmitting Equipment

Adequate control system

Allowances and clearance for equipment

All high voltage devices should be provided by protective circuits

Metering Equipment

Design and construction

Linear Scale Instruments (Ammeter/Voltmeters)

Length of scale shall not be less than 6cm.

Accuracy shall at least within 2% of full reading.

Full scale reading shall not be greater than 5 times the minimum normal indication.

Monitoring Equipment

DETAILED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Monitoring Equipment

Frequency Monitor

Modulation Monitor

Studio Equipment and Allied Facilities

Location and Layout

Same as transmitter layout

Each studio shall be associated with a control room

Licensed Radio Technicians must be present at all times

Insulated from external sources of noise (acoustics engineering)
