Denotation is dizzy rascal
Connotations red, black and white suggests male
audience bold, exciting and strength.
Image denotes graffiti connotations the streets and hip hop
culture freedom and youth. In a city, working class, black
Can be seen as creative or threatening. Joy anchoring the
graffiti more towards creative limiting connotations.
The god chain he wears connotes gangsters or rap genre
same as the sneakers consistent throughout.
Sans serif font very bold and big suggesting fun putting
writing on a slant angle echo's slant of the image
connoting informal and rule braking not following the grid.
Using the word man suggests an informal attitude very
much teenage slang not standard.
The banner suggests acts and names of musicians and
groups due the fact it will appeal to the audience and very
functio0nal as it is practical and formative to the reader.
the banner thats are thought to be more appealing to the
audience are put t the top as well as this links to the image
as the famous starts are at the top of the magazine and
the less famous celebrities near the bottom.

2.b Analyse the contents age from NME Dizzee

rascal edition
Within this contents there seems to be very
structured layout as the chain on the edge of the
picture may represent the suitcase which
contrasts the fact that the women in the picture
seems to be standing near what could be a tour
bus therefore the suitcase represents travelling.
The fonts used is called sans serif. This font in
particular was used as it keeps within the modern
theme of the magazine as it appears to be quite
edgy. Secondly the you can tell the image is
slightly slanted from looking at touring special
therefore this also fits in with the edgy theme as
due to the picture being slanted it no longer fits
in with the rule of thirds which could be
considered as rule breaking. There is a direct
mode of address to the audience and its very
informal suggesting that this magazine may be
for a younger target audience in particular. It
appears there is no editorial letter again backing
up my point that it is aimed for a younger
audience. The use of columns on the contents
page are very structured which seems to go well

2.C Analyse the double age spread

from NME Dizzee Rascal Edition
There is a grid layout which seems to be very basic
although shows consistency throughout the cover and
contents. It sticks with the strong colour scheme of red
and black which connotes a male. The font used sticks
with sans serif keeping the modern theme throughout the
magazine as its very bold and eye catching which could
suggest power. It appears that potential dead space is
either filled with secondary images or the main image.
The graffiti background pay suggesting branding as well
as this graffiti is seen as a rebellious act therefore it
goes with the idea of the edgy magazine idea as its very
rule breaking. The page numbers in the magazine are
very small and dont take up much space which could be
sue to the fact that the editors wanted the main focus of
this particular page to be dizzee rascal therefor kept the
page numbers small to ensure there audience was
looking at exactly what they wanted. The caption anchors
to the image as its about Dizzee Rascal and his Journey
to stardom resulting in attracting the target audience
who could be in his position. There isn't a direct mode of
address in the picture because he is looking away
however, the article uses you a lot to include the
audience. This again suggests this magazine may be for
more of a male audience because of the graffiti. In
addition to this males are stereotyped to drink beer
rather than women so the use of empty beer bottles man
help suggest this is a male target audience. From
reading the magazine there isn't any specific female

Language

There is know female specific language like love or

kiss so focuses on more niche male audience. The
informal language suggests a younger more teenage
focused audience because of the use of slang you
wouldnt see this in a more classical magazine focused
on an older target audience.

sing slang suggests an informal attitude very much

teenage slang not standard English language
identifying the audience further and this is carried
throughout.
