HOW TO

FIGHT
GLOBAL
WARMING
George Paulose

IT IS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE TEMPLATE HAS BEEN DOWNLOADED FROM THE INTERNET. I THANK ITS CREATOR FOR MAKING IT AVALABLE

AIR, WATER, LIGHT AND

HEAT

- WE NEED AIR, WATER,

LIGHT AND HEAT FOR
LIVING.
- HOW DO WE USE IT
AND LEAVE IT FOR
FUTURE GENERATIONS?

WHAT IS FOSSIL FUEL

- Sources of energy that

have developed within
the earth over millions
of years. (PETROLEUM
AND COAL)
- They take millions of
years to form, they are
considered nonrenewable.

FOSSIL FUELS IN USE

Coal, Petroleum & natural

gas (LNG)
- non-renewable

(limited, will

exhaust)

- too expensive

(extracting,
processing, transporting)

- too environmentally
damaging (releases CO2 in
excess)

FOSSIL FUEL ADVERSE

EFFECTS

OIL DRILLING, REFINING, DELIVERY

AND USE
Oil spills, ecological damage,
destruction of natural habitat,
toxic gases, pollution, excess CO2.
COAL MINING, PROCESSING,
DELIVERY AND BURNING
Hazard to human health, and
ecology,
Mercury contamination, ozone
depletion acid rain

NEED OF GREENHOUSE
GASES

Earth must radiate heat into space to

balance the energy received from the Sun
At the same time

Greenhouse gases (water vapour,carbon

dioxide,methane,nitrous oxide, andozone)
in the atmosphere works like a blanket to
keep the earth warm enough for us to live.
But too much works like a thicker blanket
which makes you warmer than you need

GREENHOUSE GASES IN
EXCESS
Since1750
(Industrial revolution)

Because of burning offossil fuelsand

deforestation there is a 40% increase of
CO2.
Decay of disposed organic waste also
created excess Methane.
Thus there is more greenhouse gases than
necessary in the atmosphere.
Radiating heat from the Sun is trapped in
the gases, forcing a warming of the ground
and the lower atmosphere.

IMPACT OF GLOBAL
WARMING

Changes on Climate and weather

Ice is melting in the poles, sea levels increasing.

Rainfall has increased across the globe.
Cyclones, tsunamis and storms increase. In 2030 there
will be more than three times as today.
Floods and droughts are becoming common

Effect on Plant life

Destruction of forests needing cold climates

Unpredictable crop behaviour and plant flowering
Staple crop like rice is very susceptible to rising
temperatures

IMPACT OF GLOBAL
WARMING

Effect on Animal life

Animals become extinct and some migrate

New breeds of insects increase that destroy plant life

Effect on Man

An increase ofinfectious diseasesboth new and reemerging

Higher temperatures cause heat stroke and affects
health and life
Scarcity of fresh water to sustain life
Climate driven migration

ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION

It is Global warming +
Air is polluted (smoke and soot from coal
burning, wood burning, petroleum (kerosene)
use, diposal of organic waste etc.)

Water is Polluted (indiscriminate use of

pesticides, chemical fertilizers, industrial and
hospital effluent disposal etc.)

Food is polluted (pesticides, chemical used

for ripening and increased shelf-life)
