3. The business letter

The Personal Letter


In a personal letter, there is more leeway for self expression than in a business
letter.

You can be warm, familiar and natural.


You may use familiar, conversational and colloquial language, but it should
always be correct in usage.

You may use different kinds of devices like contradictions, direct quotations,

capitalization or underscoring of important words, exclamation point, dashes,


etc.

The personal letter substitutes for actual conversation. Take into

consideration, therefore, the interests of the reader or else he gets sleepy


reading you boring letter.

What is Business Writing?


Business writing is a term used to refer to formal write-ups done
by people transacting business.

It does not only pertain to the corporate or business field. The term
business writing encompasses a broad range of professions.

Since writing is part and parcel of any business organization,


effective business letter writing is a must for every business writer.
Therefore, the writers learned skill in writing sentences,
paragraphs, essays, and compositions will help him/her become
effective in business writing.

expressions.
