Health Care Cost Reduction - More than 50% of the after-tax profit of business is
spent on employee medical care. Evidence is overwhelming and conclusive that corporate health
promotion programs reduce the use of company-funded health care services, thus demonstrating
that such programs are a necessity in the current and future corporate environment.
In addition, such programs will translate into increased employee morale and will attract
a higher caliber of new staff.
HEALTH & FITNESS BENEFITS
The overwhelming benefits of health & fitness programs will mean nothing unless
they are cost effective. Research shows that these programs are, in fact, a great
investment.
“The Bottom Line” - A Report on the Benefits of Corporate Wellness Programs.
Health & Fitness Programs pay for themselves from savings resulting from
the following benefits:
•Coors Brewing reports a return on investment from $1.24 to $8.33 for every dollar
spent on its full-service wellness program. In 1990, for example, a gain of $6.15
was returned for every dollar spent.(28)
•During a 4 year study, Kennecott Cooper realized a $5.78 return for each dollar
funding its corporate fitness effort.(1)
•Equitable Life noted a cost: benefit ratio of $1:$5.52 in the first-year analysis of
its employee fitness program.(17)
•Johnson & Johnson’s LIVE FOR LIFE wellness programs delivered a 30% return on
investment during a 12 year education are components of the lifestyle improvement

The benefits from a properly equipped, staffed and operated Health & Fitness Center and
Program are far-ranging, encompassing much more than health and fitness and such a
program pays for itself.
It is well proven and understood that a healthy and fit workforce has fewer accidents,
illnesses and injuries, and lost workdays, all leading to reduced worker’s compensation
claims and insurance premiums, and lower training and worker replacement costs.
Also, in addition to these benefits, employees involved in the health & fitness program learn
interpersonal skills which carry over to and benefit their work, such as how to
become team players by working together for a common goal.
A workforce provided with the proper health & fitness program is a workforce that will be
more energized and more productive. This will be not only of great benefit, but also of
great benefit to the individual employees, their families and the community.
With over 14 years of in-depth experience developing and implementing health and fitness
programs specifically for employees with programs that encourage employees participation,
as evidenced by a higher rate of participation than other companies, I feel that I am
uniquely qualified to lead the continued effort to advance the priorities and goals in part,
through a complete health & fitness program.”
