APPLICATION LETTER
Also considered as a cover letter
because
it
introduces
and
emphasizes special points of the
resume and shows how a particular
skill or qualification is suited to a
particular job.
It has the main job of introducing the
resume which in turn introduces a
person to a prospective employer for
a possible interview and eventually

It has the mission to sell the services,


qualifications, character and
personality of the applicant.
It also serves as a referral record of
the employer for the future
reference.
It should never be treated as an
autobiography.

First Section Attracting Attention


or Establishing Contact
Tell how you have known of the
opening and the type of position you
are applying for.

Second Section Creating


Interest or Desire
Mention your qualifications in
relation to the job you are applying for.
These include your educational
qualifications and work experiences if
you have.

Third Section Convincing the


Reader
Mention at least three character
references who can testify of your
integrity, character and personality.

Fourth Section Stimulating


Favorable Action
Request for an interview.
Mention how you would be contacted
by the addressee.

CLASSIFICATION OF
APPLICATION LETTER
1. Solicited Application Letter
A solicited application letter is
written in response to an
advertisement.

The following should be remembered in


writing this kind of letter:
1. Write immediately the letter not
sacrificing the content.
2. Be unique and innovative.
3. Be sure that you meet all the
requirements
mentioned
in
the
advertisement.
4. Follow strictly where and to whom to
address the letter and what to include
as supporting documents.

2. Unsolicited Application Letter


Also called prospecting or cold
application, this is written either in the
belief that there is an opening in an
agency or in response to what he/she
has heard that particular agency has a
vacancy.

TIPS IN WRITING
APPLICATION LETTER
1. Make your introductory paragraph
unique.
2. Your letter of application should be
personalized as can be.
3. In citing your character references,
be sure that you have informed
them that you included their names
in your application letter.
4. Avoid participial endings.

5. Avoid having erreor including


typographical errors.
6. Use one sheet only.
7. Do not leave the inside address
without specific name of the person
in charge of hiring.
8. Be sure that you properly spelled
the names of the employer/s.

9. Salary should not be mentioned


unless requested by the
advertisement or the employer.
10. Do not be assertive of reliability,
capacity of your hard work or
intelligence.
11. Do not photocopy your application
letter.

12. Another way of beginning the letter if


it is solicited letter is to use the
requirements in the ad and emphasizes
them.
For example:
The ad says
Excellent English communication
skills both in spoken and written. Has
listening and problem solving skills; a
team player, willingness to work

Letter of Application
Guidelines
Length:A letter of application should be
no more than one page long.
Format:A letter of application should be
single-spaced with a space between each
paragraph. Use about 1" margins and align
your text to the left, which is the standard
alignment for most documents.
Font:Use a traditional font such as Times
New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. The font size
should be between 10 and 12 points.
