What is Sky bus??

Sky bus Metro is a prototype suspended railway system invented

by Indian technologist Mr B Rajaram
Sky bus metro is the new rail System which consists of an elevated
track with car suspended below the track like the H-Bahn systems
in Germany

Elevated suspension railway in

other parts of the world

H-Bahn
Wuppertal Schwebebahn

Dresden

Memphis

Description
Heavy 60 kg /m rails placed at standard gauge.
8m X 2m Concrete box enclosure.
Supported over a 1m dia.

Columns spaced @ distance of 15-20m

The height of column must be min of 8m
Capacity :18000 pphpd 72000 pphpd

The components of the skybus metro

Sky way
Path in which Sky Bus travels.
Includes concrete box supported by piers,
Two rails at standard gauge - appropriately fixed to guide the bus.

Sky bogies

It consists of two axel bogies

It is incorporated with the bogies of 3 phase alternating current motors with
regenerative power capability
Disk brakes

Emergency mechanical break

Sky coaches

10

Sky Bus pair of coaches

Coach : 9.25m X 2.4m
Sky Bus unit: 18.5 m length
Capacity :150 persons

Double walled light shells with large

windows are suspended from the
sky bogies
Air conditioned and automatic doors

Audio visual information to passengers

11

12

13

Sky station
The skybus requires small sky stations
Totally automated without drivers or
guards and access control is also
electronic by prepaid cards being swiped in

14

15

Traverser
There are no points and crossings.
This is the system which will automatically
shifts the skybus units for balancing the
loads or change in routes too as well.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
16

SKY BUS runs on the same

tracks as the normal rail.

In a normal train, if we remove the

coaches and place a slab on the
wheels it forms the top part of the SKY
BUS.

17

Two sky coaches are attached by

beams with four wheels for one
coach . Shock absorbers are
provided in the wheels only.

The upper structure is completely covered

by the concrete wall to eliminate
derailment as well as to protect the
structure from adverse weather conditions.

18

EMERGENCY EXIT

19

EMERGENCY EXIT
To bring a relief coach on the parallel line or in the same line and transfer
passengers from one coach to the other.
Bringing a relief vehicle on the road, with a glide to bring the passengers
down.

Fire resistant materials will be used to reduce the risk of fire

Advantages of Sky Bus

Cost efficient :
Capital cost : The average capital cost is just Rs.50 Cr/km but for
metro it costs about 230 corers and for underground metro it costs
about 398-400 corers

How Sky Bus saves in costs!

Conventional railway
provides for heavy
steel coaches to
protect people from
derailments and
capsizing. So carry
more steel and dead
weight instead of
people.
With total weight of 48T, a
railway can carry only 70
persons in 20 m length

Sky Bus has no such

problem; no
derailment hence
uses very light
weight coaches
and carries more
people using much
less dead weight
Sky Bus with the same
weight & length carries
300 persons
comfortably

22

Advantages of Sky Bus

Cost efficient :
Running cost : Sky bus model starts giving a return of 24% on equity from
fare box collections within the first year of operation.
For the commuter it only adds up to Rs 0.50 per km, drastically less than
what has been fixed by the Metro at Rs. 2 per km route
A news magazine recently reported that out of 135 Metro corporations in
the world, only 3 are making operational profits. These include Singapore,
Taiwan & Hong Kong.

Advantages of Sky Bus

SAFETY : No derailments

Advantages of Sky Bus

Rain water harvesting &
solar energy
Fast transportation

No land acquisition
problem
No demolition
No vandalism
No capsizing
Tourism
Low capital and
running cost
Luxury

Low maintenance cost

No problem of traffic
jams
No interference with
normal traffic
Can be built on existing
flyover
No pollution
Comfort to passengers
No derailment problem

29

conclusion
Sky bus is an improved railway technology , eliminates the problem of city
suffering from heavy traffic.
Pollution free & Noise free transportation.
Ultimately life is more precious than any other thing hence we need to give
safer transportation facility along with it economy also play important role.
