Chinwe Roy is a Nigerian-British artist born in Eastern Nigeria. She has always had a passion for art from a young age. After being greatly affected by the Biafran war, she traveled to Britain in 1975 to study graphic design. She now lives in Suffolk and works full-time as a painter, creating portraits in oils and pastels as well as pieces depicting African history and culture. Some of her most notable commissions include painting portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

Chinwe had always wanted to be an artist and took every opportunity to draw – even when this got her into trouble at school due to the fact that she went to a boarding school and girls weren’t aloud to draw but study only academic subjects. Chinwe travelled to Britain in 1975 and obtained a b.a hons. Degree in graphics design at Middlesex polytechnic formerly Hornsey college of art. Chinwe Roy's art Chinwe Roy took up full time painting in 1988 and her work covers a wide area. As well as portraits in oils and pastels, her painting depicting the history of the African continent have a tracked wide acclaim.Chinwe also sculpts in clay. Her portraits commission are extensive and the major commissions is to paint her majesty queen Elizabeth 11 at Buckingham Palace. She is the first like artist to do so.
