Tutorial

Briefly outline the step that explain the meaning of the
commonly used rule divide the numerator by the
denominator
NOT NECESSARY FOR .
A fraction whose denominator is a power of ten

Reason :
Can be write as decimal such that decimal point is placed
correspondingly to the power of ten. ( to the left of the last digit
of the numerator )

using place value chart
Division by zero in a simple fraction

Reason
The denominator of any fraction cannot have the value of zero.
If the denominator of a fraction is a zero, the expression is not
a legal fraction because its overall value is undefined.
Zero in the numerator of the simple fraction

Reason
A numerator is allowed to take on value of zero in a fraction.
Any legal fraction ( denominator not equal to zero) with a
numerator equal to zero has an overall value of zero.
How ????
To allow the renaming of common fractions as decimal fractions and
consequently as per cents.

Using rule divide the numerator by the denominator

Getting confused with larger number is always divided the smaller
number
The relationship between division &
fraction concept
1. Create an equivalent fraction with
tenths or hundredths
Find a number you can multiply by the bottom of the fraction to
make it 10/100,1000 or any power of ten.

Multiply both top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) by that
number.

Then write down just the top number, putting the decimal point in
the correct spot
( using basic block 10 & place value chart)
2. Fraction with denominator that can not
be power of ten long division
Write the denominator, then draw a division bracket.

Ignores the decimal point that is inside the division symbol and
began the process of long division.

When you reach a result of zero under the division bracket, the
decimal number above the bracket is exactly equivalent to the
fraction you started with.

If your calculation return to the same number over and over, eg:
1/3 repeated returns the remainder of 1 repeating decimal.

Reinsert the decimal point in the answer.
Justification
Diagrams showing parts of several wholes as well as by region
diagrams that draw on the multiplicative relationship.
Justify the general division procedure for renaming common
fractions as decimal fraction.

For example( pg 248, week 10)

Convincing enough in real life situation
Sahring of pizzas, cakes, fruits etc
Wholes needs to be shared by part by part and involve the
process of division
