University Background
ASIA e UNIVERSITY
Established in April 2007. Set under Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level. Supported by 32 ACD Member Countries as confirmed at the ACD Ministerial Meetings held in Islamabad in 2005 and Doha in 2006. Collaborates with Institutions of Higher Learnings and Training Institutions in the ACD Member Countries to offer quality academic and professional training programmes that are affordable and accessible.
RATIONALE of AeU
To act as an enabler for Asian educational institutions to increase cross-border accessibility of their programmes. To collaborate with Asian educational institutions to increase access to relevant, flexible and affordable academic and professional training programmes.

Mission To work in collaboration with universities, institutions and corporations drawing upon their collective expertise, prestige and resources to provide quality Higher Education and Lifelong Learning.
OBJECTIVES
To provide academic programmes of international standards by capitalising on the expertise and prestige of collaborating institutions. To provide students access to relevant, affordable, cost-effective, flexible education, and training programmes. To develop appropriate pedagogical strategies and apply suitable technologies to give free reign to students creativity and sharpen their thinking and communication skills. To ensure that all programmes and courses meet the respective quality benchmarks and match the standard e-learning best practices of member institutions.

Flexible Mode of Learning AeU programmes are available to study on a Full-time, Part-time or Distance Learning basis.

Fully online learning To study via the internet through Personalised Learning Space (PLS). It usually involves a combination of participation in an online interactive learning forum and access to learning materials in a digital format. Blended learning To study via a combination of face-to-face tutorials given by Academic Facilitators at a designated Learning Centre and online through PLS with access to learning materials in a digital format.

AeU @ ETP
Malaysian Government launched the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in a comprehensive effort to transform Malaysia into a high-income nation by 2020.
One of the first nine entry point projects was the selection of AeU as the gateway university for international education for distance and online learning (EPP 6). A special online learning platform called Malaysia Education Online (MEdO) to provide a one-stop e-learning platform for expanding international distance learning, offering programmes of Malaysian universities, colleges, polytechnics and training institutes.

Asia Centre for e-Learning (ACE) was established under the auspices of ACD. ACE is responsible for the management of MEdO. ACE seeks to promote e-learning initiatives in the region, establish strategic links with institutions in the creation of e-content, develop policies and standards, provide a repository of e-learning technologies, and training and consultancy services.
